Oral English A poised mind expressed through a poised body and an adequate voice, has been the keynote for the training of the individual student of Oral English this year. Each student has had an opportunity to apply this idea by participating in the verse-speaking choir, readings, pantomimes, one-act plays, speeches, and any other forms of oral enter- tainment for which he has shown a natural ability. Programs have been presented before the class, in the assembly, and before the public. . During the first semester, the class presented a number of OIIC-QICK plays. The Florist Shopf' a spring comedy, was played by the following cast: Owner of The Florist Shop, Stoddard Winton! the office girl, Olga Anderson, the office boy, Clif- ford Cassel, the engaged couple, Gertrude Stratton and Loren Sorensen. For Armistice Day, a special number, Toy Band, a story of the great advance on Paris during the World War, was given by the verse speaking choir. They also gave Spin, Lassie Spin, an old Scotch song, Friday Street, and The Camel's Hump. Extra, a newspaper comedy, was played by: Myron Robertson, the editor-in-chief, Helen Koch, the Sob Sister, Glen Plaster, a reporter, Lucy Brewer, a society crook, Loren Sorensen, the detective, Bernice Taber, the heroine, and Austin Minot, the heroic cub reporter. The director was Gertrude Stratton. St. George and the Dragon, a traditional English Christmas play, was presented for the Christmas party given by the Boy Scouts. Mar- jorie Olsen announced the following cast: St. George, Stoddard Winton, the princess, Ann Souza! her attendants, Virginia Simpson, Willfrieda Wulff, Helen Vandergriff, Bernice Hille, the king, Clifford Cassel, the king's jester, Glen Plaster, the queen, Evelyn Cox, the queen's attendant, Evelyn Alvernazi mayor of the city, Myron Rob- ertson, the city council, Geneva Woods, Florence Christian, two of the city council playing the part of the dragon, Margaret Purser and Elsie Nordfelt, the villagers, Olga Anderson, Lucy Brewer, Mispah Hay, Austin Minot, Helen Pinheiro, Georgianna Slankard, Loren Sorensen, Bernice Taber, Gertrude Stratton, Jan Wright and Helen Koch. Sail Right In, a comedy, was given by the second semester class. The cast was as follows: Gregory, Kermit Dirksi Donald, George Galaway, Sylvia, Lola Harvey, Marian, Dorothy Clark. The entire class appeared in an original skit, Gypsy Camp- fires, a combination of gypsy verses spoken by the class, and songs by Dorothy Clark, accompanied by Delphina Mello, George Galaway, Joyce Merritt and Jack Campbell. Red Carnations, a one-act comedy, was also presented by: John Petersen, the Boy, Magdalen Hendricks, the Girl! Allen Bugbee, the Man, Evelyn Ray, Director. A A A Community Evening The friends and patrons of Livingston High School observed Public Education Week on April 27. They were invited to inspect the exhibits presented by the various classes. After their inspection of the exhibits they gathered in the auditorium to enjoy a program consisting of skits by the Oral English Class, exhibits of clothing by the Homemaking Classes and music by the Music Department. The speaker of the evening was Mr. C. F. Perrot, principal of the Turlock Union High School. 22
