0 T NLIVINGSTONIANH L O CPRESS CLUB Under the supervision of Mrs. Silver the Journalism Class has been very suc- cessful during the year. D. Mitchell and E. Wilson, assisted by Miss Randol, effectively handled the commercial work, while R. Wayman and M. Barrett, under the direction of Miss Gale, took care of the art work. The Press Club has made many improvements over last year. The number of issues has been increasedg various interviews made by the members were published, much original work appeared, representatives were sent to Modesto to attend the First Annual Press Club meeting of the High School Publication Congress, a prominent speaker was heard. The members of the organization, Z. Balazs, M. Barrett, F. Cavaiani, C. Cassell, L. Dirks, M. Kanagawa, D. Manchester, M. Masuda, D. Mitchell, Noda, R. Rose, P. Taber, M. Williams, E. Wilson, R. HONOR SCHOLARSHIP SOCIETY With twenty-one members, the Honor Scholarship Society launched the year of 1933 under the helpful and cooperative guidance of Miss Knerr, our adviser. Special Privilege Cards were awarded to the Honor Pupils at the beginning of each semester. Even though we did not win a majority of the decisions given, we won a large measure of satisfaction from the splendid way in which our debaters represented us. In the first round of debate upon the question of tax burden adjustment, our affirmative team, Betty Lou Knapp and Lafayette Noda, lost a close two to one decision to Fresno, while our negative team, Leah Koehn and Raymond Rose, lost a three to nothing decision to an experienced Ripon team. We were more successful in the second round, for our affirmative team, Rose Wayman and Elizabeth Wright, won a three to nothing decision over Hughson, and Margaret Scott and Siegwill Wulff lost a two to one decision to Hilmar upon the subject of unemployment insurance. In addition to these league debates, we participated in a non-decision, dual, Sophomore debate with Ripon on the subject of Russian recognition. We were represented by Clifford Cassell, Rob- ert Weir, Ben Rossie, and James Rossie. Mr. Lee feels sure that the interest created by our debating activities augmented by the work of our newly formed debate club will place Livingston on the winning side of future debates. 0 I Page 17 I O
