We've come To The end of anoTher yearbook qHere's The plug for The supplemenT. I hope you boughT yoursj. The long, arduous sTrug- gle To achieve uniTy of Theme, conTexT, and moTif while presenTing a producT ThaT is differenf from The previous year's is finally compleTe. Frankly, I felT some brief momenTs of doubT ThaT we would ever finish. This year's sTruggle To complefion was fraughf wiTh surprises all along The way. IT is cusTomary for The advisor To offer his or her sagacious insighTs gleaned from a year's journey Through a school year wiTh adolescenTs. Hmmmm . . . You don'T wanT To hear The liTany of horror sTores, disappoinT- menTs, frusTraTions, angry momenTs, broken promises, and missed deadlines ThaT is a yearbook's masquerading as journalism. The chanT would begin wiTh The Trivial and end moaningly wiTh The near- caTaclysmic. The Book of RevelaTions may provide comparable liTerary and propheTic value while iTs more sanguine reading: you may even prefer The Gilgamesh Epic. Some have foughT The good fighT, kepT The faiTh, finished The course. These are The people who deserve The undying graTiTude of a sTudenT body ThaT expecfs, no, demands iTs yearbook on The appoinTed day. The book doesn'T jusT arrive. La Encina is The producT of The clicheed blood, sweaT, Tears. La Encina is The resulT of long hours, missed classes. sleepless nighfs, cold pizza and warm Pepsi aT seven o'clock in Rm. 906. IT is The disTillaTion of dedicaTion assumed by a small coTerie of sfrangely obsessed fanafics known as The La Encina sTaff. I wish To share The proud accomplishmenTs of a group of people who achieved The near-impossible. Thanks To Suzie and Sandy for is ThaT Sandie and Suzy'?Q who assumed The Thankless and pressure-packed responsibiliTy of Co- Edifors-in-Chief. They discovered Too laTe how crazy They were. I'm noT sure whaT would have happened if Kellie had noT sworn alle- giance To our band of desperadoes. She almosT single-handedly revised, correcied and creaTed The SporTs SecTion afTer The disasTer of firsT semesTer's failed deadlines. The sTaff and I are indebTed To Jeanenne, Missy. and Isabel for selling ads like crazy. Good luck To Isabel aT The Oak Leaf nexT year: Missy and Jeanenne will form The parTnership for La Enclna 1988, The conTinuiTy To conTinue TradiTion. To ediTor Traci M. Thanks for your devoTion despiTe broken cars. KrisTi Thanks for all your work on The seniors. Laura's wriTing and conTribu- Tion To classes will live on in La Encina 1987 as will Jill's Typing and organizaTion skills. Mandy, Donna, Tracy D. masferminded The senior farewells and The booksales and The suppIemenT sales and publiciTy and so on. Troy and Tony creaTed a senior index, exploring enTire new worlds of compuTer daTa collecTion. Ah, whaT cyberneTic worlds of wonder! AT The risk of offending Brian, Andy, Traci B., Sarah, Lisa, Delia. Tania, Danielle, Susan, Alma, Nadine, Bine, STacey I'm going To call a haIT To These kudos. Thank you all for hanging in There. Finally, none of This would have been possible wiThouT The help of JosTen's Rep. Les PeTerson. He is a prince Trapped in The body of a former golfer. Les Truly helped geT The book ouT. Marilyn MiTchell in JosTen's Visalia plahT deserves a menTion, Too. We all Thank Chris Johnson for his phoTo skills, phoTo help and advice. Wow, whaT a lisT! Finally, This hecTic year would noT have been survivable wiThouT The supporT, aid, comfort and aTTaboys of Live Oak's inimiTable sTaff. Our sTudenTs somefimes forgeT how forTunaTe They are To be guided by such ToleranT, knowledgeable and humane insTrucTors. Gracia- mos. Aaron Spain Well, here we are, eaTing DoriTos and wondering whaT To say. No really, being The ediTors of The 4986-87 La Enclna Yearbook has been an experience we will never forgeT. Aaron wasn'T joking when he said iT was Too laTe when we discovered whaT a crazy decision we had made. Taking on The responsibiliTy of finishing an enTire yearbook seemed To be a goal way ouT of reach. BuT, when The firsT deadline was suddenly Two weeks away we realized we had made a decision and iT was our responsibiliTy To geT The job done. We have To be TruThful, being co-ediTors was The mosT difficulT Task we had yeT To achieve. We knew ThaT The job was going To Take a loT of our free Time, buT we did noT realize ThaT we would be sTuck aT Live Oak in The infamous room 906 unTil 'l'l:3O when The janiTors kicked us ouT. One of The hardesT Things we had To do was yell aT our peers for missing deadlines. Our sTaff did noT, aT firsT, wanT To Think of us as any Type of auThoriTy. GeTTing The sTaff organized Took abouT Three weeks and cannoT be classified as anyfhing less Than chaos. AfTer our iniTiaI road blocks, Things finally began To fall in place. We wish To give our mosT sincere Thanks To Kellie McMahon for coming in and Taking over conTrol of The enTire sporTs secTion which had a record of zero pages Turned in for The firsT Three deadlines. Kellie really goT The secTion back on iTs feeT and we owe her a greaT deal. We wanT To also Thank Laura, Jill, and Isabel for finishing The underclassmen secTion on Time and Laura again for helping Kellie when Things were really rough. Tracy MaTTson did a wonderful job keeping up The clubs alfhough she had a consTanT shorTage of picTures. We also Thank KrisTi WesTon for helping compleTe The senior secTion, and all The people who helped sell 'I3 pages of ads ThaT kepT our book ouT of The red. Many Thanks To Troy and Tony for finishing The Senior index in such shorT noTice. Even wiTh our helpful sTaff, we never would have survived all The pressure wiThouT our cheerful advisor Aaron Spain. He always came To our rescue when iT was our lasT day before a deadline and we were afraid we wouldn'T be done on Time. He would say, Okay, calm down. IT won'T hurf us Too much if you Turn Them in on Mon- day. Well, we knew deep down ThaT he was really saying, lf They do This To me again were dead. BUT we survived, and now The book is done. The only pressure we have lefT on us now is wheafher our book saTisfies The sTudenT body. This is The over all goal. We wish To achieve and The one we have worried abouf The mosT. We hope Les forgives us if we goT him inTo any Trouble by asking him To push for deadline exfensions. He was a greaT help and was very undersTanding when we Turned up shorT on pages. We also wanT To Thank Chris Johnson for Taking such greaT picTures and The remaining Josfens people for sfanding behind us. There are a few Things we wanT To Tell Jeanenne or Missy, nexT years ediTor. The mosT imporTanT is sTarT righT away. Please don'T waiT Three weeks and Think you have all The Time in The world. Make sure you geT your sTaTf organized as soon as possible because procrasTinaTion will be your downfall. Being The ediTor will be The hardesT job, buT iT may also be The mosT rewarding experience. We wish you The besT of luck and we wanT To Tell you ThaT we Think you will make an excellenT ediTor-in-chief. We seT ouT To make our senior year someThing special. We wanT- ed To have a purpose oTher Than an academic one. We wanfed To be involved in our senior year and we feel ThaT we have accom- plished This goal. A loT of hours and dedicaTion wenT inTo The T986-87 La Enclna. We were noT prepared for The heavy pressure buT we did realize iT was going To be filled wiTh hard work. Being The ediTors has made a lasTing impression on us and has made us beTTer people. Our senior year was definafely a success and we hope ThaT everyone enjoys The resulTs of our efforTs. We wanT To wish all of The graduaTing seniors The besT of luck in life.
