The Kiwanis is a worldwide service organization, whose members desire to become personally involved in improv- ing the quality of their commu- nities. All of the events that the Key Club participates in re- volve around service to the club's community or to their school. Their theme for the past year was to visit local rest homes regularly in order to give the elderly any needed assistance. The Club held several fund raisers throughout the 86-87 school year. They were in charge of running the conces- sion stands at all football games, candy sales, and orga- nizing a booth at the Mush- room Mardi Gras. Mr. Todd would like to give a special thanks to all the Key Club members who took part in all the projects. IT'S TIIVIE TO STUDY. Above: The members ol the Academic Decathalon included, Left to Flight: Coach Clampittg Todd Ferreira' Scott Jacksonq Mike Ladaskyg Julie Hansellg Jenny Brawnq Cathy izquierdog Marc Weylandg Elizabeth Brawng Neil McCown,' Laura Ludlowg Dana In September 4986, the Academic Decathalon began in the classroom. Within two weeks, committees were formed that covered every subject listed in the outline provided by the organizers of the Aca-Dec program. In October, the decathalon hopefuls prepared speeches and practiced improvisational speeches. Once the team was announced and alternates chosen, the studying picked up. Support was the key word as each committee of two or three people presented its material and gave spe- cial tutoring during special study ses- sions. Last, but not least, on the fate- ful day in November, the work finally paid off. Live Oak's Academic De- cathalon took Ath place in the 4986 competition, up from 1985's iOth place. And as Velchos the White Tiger can attest - the celebration was the best! The Academic De- cathalon's night of awards was held in December, where Live Oak walked away with more awards than any other school. Albrecht, Gene Sakai' David Riley, Jim Veichos.
