SENIORS STAGE RAPID- F IRE 3 ACT COMEDY DEADLY EARNEST. a three-act comedy by Donald Payton. featured fourteen members of the senior class. Public presentation. on March 31. 1958. was staged in the Littlefield High School Auditorium. The story evolves as homeless. girl-less. and johless Henry Cilcrest pays his last 317.33 to a Mr. Bumpus. who is to channel the money to Earnest. This mysteri- ous person. Earnest. is to get Henry out of his misery. All of Henryls troubles seem to dissolve as Aunt Ethel and his girl friend forgive him and his lwoss. not only hires him hack. hut gives him a raise. ln the midst of all his pleasure. Henry suddenly remem- hers this unknown Earnest. who is supposed to take his life. Needless to say. his misery is our fold: es- pecially when virtuallv everyone he encounters is named Earnest. Even the doctor who is finally called in to soothe llenryls nerves is Dr. Earnest. So miser- ahle is Henry that he lmegs Mr. Bumpus to hurry and Carry out the hargain.
