L, crops. Its beaches are attractions for vacationers from Rome and further away. New Gaeta has expanded and modernized to accommodate them. In Gaeta we live among our Italian friends and have a daily opportunity to learn about Italian ways. We have all gained a new perspective on our own country through the experience of living in a community that still has not been overcome by the gadgetry of the industrial world. The Italians say to us, Slow down a little, life is short, enjoy it. We should listen.

Quaid, Our J-lame Port When LITTLE ROCK relieved SPRINGFIELD in January 1967, she changed her homeport from Norfolk, Virginia, to Gaeta, Italy. At the same time, Commander Sixth Fleet changed his homeport from Villefranche, France, to Gaeta. The friendly people of Gaeta welcomed us with complete hospitality. Gaeta is very much like other coastal towns of southern Italy. But Gaeta has its own charm. It has its very old section with narrow, winding streets, terraced hillsides with grapevines, oranges, tangerines, and olivesg and its lowlands with endless varieties of garden
