The Dental Department, small but effective, is com- prised of the Dental Officer and three trained techni- Cians. The Dental Office is well-equipped with two com- plete dental units and chairs, X-ray machines and the other equipment necessary for a modern establishment. All personnel receive periodic examination and a con- tinuing program of dental hygiene. The aim of both these important departments is to keep the men of the LITTLE ROCK and the Staff in top physical condition, so they can carry out their as- signed duties. 'x 175

DIVISION Keeping the 1300-plus men aboard the ship healthy is a big job for the Medical Department. This is done not only by treating those people al- p ready sick, but also by preventing disease through yiff the maintenance of high standards of hygiene and sanitation, the use of X-rays and immunizations, the inspection of prepared food and fresh provi- sions, and the frequent analysis of drinking water.
