CDR P. L. ANDERSON WE PON DEPARTMENT The-shrill sound of the Bos'ns pipe is followed by the words A Missile will be fired in one minute. It is an exer- ciseg firing the missile for practice, but is the moment we all wait for. This is a missile ship, and at General Quarters sta- tions we understand that this an important reason for our being. Anti-Air-Warfare is our game and Talos is the name. Despite our many protocol assignments and our responsibility for car- rying the Commander of the Sixth Fleet, LITTLE ROCK is a combatant vessel. Our power is for peaceful purposes, but we must be ready to fight if called upon to do so. The men of the Weapons Department provide LITTLE ROCK with her big sting - Talos. The ship also has sec- ondary weapons - six-inch manned by the old timers and five- inch guns manned by the Marines. But the day to day pres- ervation of the ship, anchoring, mooring, refueling, towing, replenishment and care and maintenance of the ship's boats and vehicles are also our important functions. LCDR W.
