Small Track Squad Proves Very Strong THE 1949-50 TRACK TEAM, although small, was much feared and very powerful. Their weight was felt in every track meet in which they participated. The first meet of the year was with Tolleson and Buckeye, at Tolleson. This was fol- lowed by meets with the Glendale I.V.'s and the North Phoenix I.V.'s. Next were the Arizona Relays, in which L.H.S.'s one-mile relay team ran one of the finest races of the year. The team consisted of Willie Fulks, Ed Monty, Phil Brownlie, and Don Coulter. Each ran 443 yards. The following week came the Chandler Relays, and then the district meet. Willie Fulks Won the 220 yard dash, successfully' defending his title, and placed third in the century. loe Lipscomb placed third in the mile run. These performances qualified these boys to run in the state meet at Tempe where Willie Eulks placed third in the 220 yard dash. Running the different events and showing very well during the season were Willie Fulks in the l00 and 220 yard dashes and the relay, Phil Brownlie and Don Coulter in the 440 yard dash and relay: Ioe Lipscomb in the mile, the high jump, and the 880 yard rung Ed Monty in the 440 yard dash and the 880 yard rung Ray Stewart in the l00 and the 220 yard dashes, the broad jump, and the relay: Dick Kingsbury in the pole Vaulty lames Ackman, in the shot put and the mile rung and, Fred Harwood in the shot put. The Owls wound up their season with 4 wins against 8 losses. Litchfield fought all the way, but didn't have a strong enough offense to overcome the more powerful teams. Next year's team will have six returning lettermen, as well as some good talent from this year's Owlets.
