Because of inexperience and lack of depth, the team went winless. Although the Owls didn't ever come out on top, all the squad played their best and didn't stop fighting until the final gun. ln the opening game the Peoria Panthers eked out a 12-6 victory over the Owls. The following week the Owls lost a 19-14 heartbreaker to Tolleson with the gold and blue threaten- ing in the final minutes of the game. After holding the strong Buckeye Hawks to a 19-18 half- time score, the Owls gave 'Way in the final stanzas and lost 50-18. Next came a 26-O shellacing by the Carver Monarchs. After the Willie Fulksl Ronald Cruigo MOHCIFCIISI QCIITIG, the Owls lost CI bruising game to Santa Cruz 26-13. ln a very muddy game at Scotts- dale, the squad was blanked by a 20-U score by the Beavers. ln the final game of the season, the Owls played probably their best game. After leading most of the game they got careless in the fi- nal moments and lost at 13-l2 thriller to the Superior Panthers. Under the able guidance of Coaches Glenn Mackie and Ioe Garcia, the squad was taught the fundamentals of eleven-man foot- ball. This training was combined with the practice of good sports- manship, which makes the game of football more enjoyable. left half right end

The boys Won eleven While dropping seven in their tough 18-game schedule. This squad Was built around such returning letter- men as Ray Stewart, Ron Craigo, and Ken Wood. These three boys carried the team's scoring burden throughout the year. The Owls got off to a good start, winning their first three encounters. However, as the season progressed, they hit a streak of bad luck and lost some of their vital games. The squad finally found themselves and ended the regular season with three straight Wins. ln the West Central District Tournament, the Qwls entered as one of the favorites, but were defeated in their first two games.
