SCORE LHS vs. Emma Sansom 0-15 Litchfield opened the season under new Head Coach Buddy Hearn against cross-town rival Emma Sansom. From the opening kick-off it looked as if it would be all Eagles. Early in the first quarter the Eagles worked the ball down to the Rebels 10 yard line before losing the ball on a fumble. On this night Litchfield had three intercepted passes and two fumbles. The Rebels cashed in on two of the interceptions for their points. The final Sansom touchdown came with 18 seconds remaining in the game. LHS vs. Centre 14-10 The Litchfield Eagles showed tremendous poise coming from behind against the heavily favored Centre Warriors. The Warriors took the opening kick-off and marched to the Eagle 6 yard line. There the Eagle defense stiffened and held them to a field goal. The game was held at a stalemate for the remainder of the first half. Ernest Taylor then put the Eagles in good position by returning the second-half kick-off to the Centre 49. From there the eagles used 9 straight running plays to score on their first come back making the score 7-3. The Warriors the followed with a quick touchdown making the score 10-7. With 4:24 left in the game the Eagles drove the length of the field for the final come from behind score. LHS vs. Guntersville 20-19 For the second week in a row the Eagles had to fight for their life for the win. The Eagles took the lead on its first play from scrimmage when David Williams took a hand-off and raced 47 yards for a touchdown. Litchfield and Guntersville swapped touchdowns with the Eagles staying on top until the Wildcats kicked a field-goal making it 17-14. Litchfield went ahead 20- 17 with little time left in the game on a 35-yard touchdown pass. Litchfield then held the Wildcats on a goal line stand on the Eagles’ 1 yard line. To avoid fumbling the Eagles gave Guntersville a safety making the final score 20-19. LHS vs. Payne 27-9 Litchfield downed the Ft. Payne Wildcats on the Eagles fifth Homecoming using a twenty point second half. The Eagles scored on their first possession on an 8 yard run by Todd Douthard. The Wildcats then followed with a touchdown and field- goal making it 9-7 at the half. Litchfield rounded out the scoring on a 35-yard run by Lynn Townsel, a 12-yard sprint by David Williams and a pass interception by Ernest Taylor. LHS vs. Gadsden 26-7 Back-up quarterback Frederick Williams, who replaced starter Ives Davis midway through the first period after Davis suf- fered a shoulder injury, guided the Eagles to a total of 412 yards against the Gadsden Tigers. The big man for Litchfield was David Williams who had 159 yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns. The Eagles defense also had an excellent night holding the Tigers to 169 total yards. The game was halted for 10 minutes in the second period by a small altercation.

BOARD LHS vs. Glencoe 28-31 Litchfield suffered their first area loss against arch rival Glencoe, 31-28 in 4 overtimes. Litchfield entered the game as the only unbeaten team in Area 12 play, but this loss threw the championship up for grabs. The Eagles had 2 chances to win during the overtimes but had the two field goals blocked. David Williams, the Eagles workhorse, had 2 touchdown runs and rushed for 129 yards. LHS vs. Hokes Bluff 7-18 Litchfield was defeated in a strong second half by the Hokes Bluff Eagles. The only score of the first half come on a contro- versial 72-yard fumble return by Litchfield’s Todd Douthard. The second half belonged completely to the Hokes Bluff Eagles. LHS vs. Boaz 7-0 The Litchfield Eagles needed only one big play to stop the Boaz Pirates 7-0. The big play came with 3:30 left in the first quarter for the only score of the game. Litchfield’s quarterback Ives Davis passed to flanker Marvin Marsh on a post pattern, and Marsh outran two Boaz defenders 72 yards to score. Neither team could manage any offense for the remainder of the game. LHS vs. Southside 16-0 The Eagles used a devasting defense and an over-whelming offense to defeat the Southside Panthers. The Eagles grabbed a 6-0 halftime lead, added a field goal in the third quarter and capped the scoring with a touchdown in the final period. Litchfield’s defense held the Panthers to only 93 total offensive yards. The Panthers did not cross midfield until its final possession of the game. On the other hand, Litchfield ran for 110 yards and passed for 136, with a total of 246 yards. LHS vs. Emma Sansom 6-14 (Charity Bowl) The Emma Sansom Rebels defeated the Eagles for the second time this season, giving Litchfield a season record of 6-4. Both teams were plagued by mistakes. The both were charged with over 80 yards of penalties apiece. The Eagles had 4 turn- overs and the Rebels 5. The Rebels scored on their first possession of the game using up half of the first quarter. The Eagles came back with a touchdown at the beginning of the second quarter by Ives Davis. The rest of the game belonged to the Rebels but they did not score until the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
