.... DQGlJFlTCl'l DFW5 Lil' Abner Sparks Enthusiasm As a sell-out crowd filled Gym I on the windy night of March lst, the suspense to witness Lindbergh's first musical in many years mounted. The lights were dimmed, the overture was played, and the opening night of Lil' Abner was under way. The curtain parted, and the audience began to enjoy the humorous roles portrayed by a cast of over one hundred. The lead parts included the talent of Curt Meyer as Abner, Lisa Amen as Daisy Mae, Mike Hei- mos as Marryin' Sam, Matt Bewitt as Pappy Yokum, Jean Bornholdt as Mammy Yokum, and Steve Foppe as Earthquake McGoon. Under the excellent direc- tion of Mr. Bye and Ms. Peppers, the acting and vocal music coordinated beautifully. Mrs. Chow also directed top orchestra and band members to accen- tuate the musical aspect of the show. By involving more students than any other drama activity and arousing the interest of the whole school, Lil' Abner proved successful in three perfor- mances and re-established a forgotten LHS musical tradition. 1 A T , . 1 1 Q E fx luq-A A L,-J' n L...lv 1 ,IK J .37 1.
