FI VIICIYEY IVIQLIDI. FII I flllt Bonfire Brightens Homecoming Victory The orange flame drew crowds to the north end of the football field. Lighting the bonfire, Lindbergh's first after many years, began the 1979 homecoming festivities on Fri- day night, October 20. Spirits rose as a Parkway West football player was burned in effigy, Coach Mach introduced the 1979 football team, the pom-pon girls performed to the pep band's accompaniment, and the cheerleaders led the crowd in cheers. Saturday afternoon, October 21, en- thusiastic Flyer fans sang M-l-C-K-E- Y M-O-U-S-E while pom-pon girls dis- guised as Disney characters danced and balloons floated out of a birth- day cake honoring Mickey Mouse's fiftieth birthday. Lindbergh celebrat- ed the anniversary with a thirteen float parade and a 17-7 victory over a previously undefeated Longhorn team. 1. LHS students hope the 1979 Bonfire re-establishes a once-forgotten homecoming tradition. 2. The Lindbergh defense fights for a 17-7 victory over Parkway West. 3. Pom-pon girls attired in ears and Disney character costumes perform white glove routines to the Mickey Mouse anthem played by the Symphonic Band. 4, The Girls' Tennis Team captures first place honors in the float contest. 5. Float preparation means early Saturday morn- ing work for Student Council members. 6. The half-time show includes introducing 1978 homecoming candidates escorted by varsity lettermen, .A-LA L 12

Jay Barry, providing all sorts of music from rock to disco, motivated couples on the dance floor while others enjoyed refreshments prepared by Pep Club members. Finally, all dancers, taking a break. entered the gym to watch the coronation. Greg Spence and Jill Schanzle introduced court members. The ceremony culminated as the retiring queen and king crowned 1978 rovaltv, Lori Walter and Kirk Syberg. 1. The 1978 Homecoming Dance attracts over 850 be-:lc e 'i the Commons. 2.
