In speech class students learn to express their ideas clearly by giving speeches to entertain, inform, per- suade and stimulate audiences. Group discussions and debates are included as part of the course. In con- nection with Speech is Drama. Students present cuttings of plays and also learn the history of the theater. MR. The band and orchestra help students perfect their instrument playing and learn to blend with a group. Famous com- posers are studied as well as various forms of music. Throughout the year, the choral and the instrumental groups have concerts to display the progress of the students.

Creativity is an important el- ement in the fine arts classes which help students excel in areas that interest them the most. Under the guidance of their teacher, many talents are developed and new tal- ents created. The opportunity of advancement to higher levels is present in several classes. D0 E TIC ART This year the home economics department added half-year courses in Food and Clothing. The Clothing classes were encouraged in their sewing by having their work displayed in the showcases. Themes for the cases were developed by the girls themselves. Throughout the year classes were visited by representatives from various food companies. These experiences enabled the girls to gain a better understanding of homemaking.
