As I sat there awaiting my guests, the class of '53, I was very anxious to see what they had been doing in the past ten years. I was just wondering who the lirst guests would be when the doorbell rang. The butler ushered in two husky- looking fellows. I recognized them as Chranson Ream and Ray Coley, Vllashington Redskin football players. My next guests were Franklin Kiser, famous winner of the Indianapolis SOO, and his wife, Jean Miller. Blary Ann Ilrewington. Shirley Iludspeth, Joy Cloodson, Barbara Ann Llren, Katie IVard, Sarah Perkins and Emily Bumgardner, nurses, arrived together. Carroll Robinson, now President ol' the llnited States, sent his regrets. Ile had a conference with some important Russian delegates. I found out that we had helped supply the business world with tjuite a few secretaries. Joyce Mace, Pam Moore, Jo Ann Sherrill, Pat Ford, Sara Ilovis, Faye Holbrook. Janice Peeler, Otelia Clark, Elsie McAllister, Joan Rhyne, Lois Sigmon, Margie Siginon, RetLy Rose Riser, Mary Alice Ileavner, Peggy Abernathy, Earlene Larman, Mildred Keener, Anne Auton, Shirley Lineberger, Christine Devine, Jane Caldwell, Daphine Ritchie, Ann McGinnis, Joyce Causey, Doris Lewis, Juanita Reynolds and barbara Ilouser are all private secretaries. The armed forces were well represented. Admiral Richard Cornwell. General XVebb Finger, Major Gerald Sain, General Ronnie Christopher, General Claude Goodson and Admiral J. VV. Iloward were there also. Just as I was greeting them I heard some jet planes zoom over, and I ligured it must be Jerry Rucker, Douglas Smith, Charles Martin, Morris Tate and Coleman Ilawkins, who are now jet pilots. coming in to land. 'lihen I saw a Cadillac drive up out front and Doris Cash, who is now married to Wlalter Rroomc, and Polly Boggs, who is now the wife of Admiral C. R. Lawing, stepped out. I was very happy to hear that Retty Ann Rentley Real and Beulah Renson Jarrell are still happily married. Some others who are now married are Rarbara Aiken. Carolyn Morris. Margaret Chapman, Connie Baker, Elaine Baker, Mallie Eurey and Doris Shuford, who is now the wife of a General in the Air Force. Now that a lot of guests had arrived, I instructed Jimmy Seagle, the orchestra leader, to begin the entertainment. VVL- had as a special attraction an organ number played by Sue Crawford. I noticed Robbie and Libbic Love, kindergarten teachers, talking to Sue Lineberger, Ralph Robinson, Kermit McGinnis. Francine Nolen, John Dellinger, Joyce XVeatherford, Colleen Keever, Merle Shelton and VVaIter Cornwell, now principal of Lincolnton Iligh School, and his wife, Ilarriet Schrum. VVho should If see talking about basketball but Mary Jo Elmore and Martha Dysart, who are now the Lincolnton High School basketball coaches. Talking about their latest murder case were La Vada Cagle, Betty Jo Stamcv, Janice Stamev. Eric Mullen, Tommy' XIHICII- tine, Patsy Page and Leona Ilrackett, now lf.B.I. agents. Donald Ruff, who is now a famous movie star for Para- mount, was pursuing his fourteenth wife, the famous Powers model, Dottie Podesta of New York City. Donald Lawing and Frank Ileafner were trying to sell a television set to mechanics Robby Pollock, Donald lXIcSwain and Albert Ilomesley. It pleased me to see that Jerry Armstrong had become a Methodist minister. Also, Jerry Robinson, who is married to Judith Chandler, is a Presbyterian minister. Iloward Proctor was telling me that he has gone into the ministry, also. Questioning them about their religious work were Ruth Vl'hitesides, Jim Bynum, Colleen Dellinger and Colleen Ilaw- kins, foreign missionaries. As I was wandering around trying to speak to everyone, I saw Terry Mitchein, who is now an aeronautical engineer. Ile told me that he had finally gotten that blue Cadillac convertible with pink sidewall tires. Incidentally, this PSI- ticular Cadillac was designed by Carlos Stallings. I noticed two smartly dressed women in uniform. They were Jessie Mae Ilarrison, a XVAC, and Shirley XVilson, who is in the XVomen's Air Force. Jimmy kVillis, manager of an A is P store in Texas, was talking to Fred Crisson, owner of a service station in Florida. Ann Moore told me that she was doing very well at Presbyterian llospital as a laboratory technician. She also tol,l me that Marjorie Thomas, now a pediatrician, sent her regrets. She was just too busy to make the trip. KVilliam Carter and Jason Long, now joint owners of the CartereLong Ilell Drivers, were discussing racing. 'Ihey looked XL'I'y I5l'lISPL'I'OlIS. I happened to see a group of girls standing around in a circle talking and I walked over to see them. They were Luryleen Ledford, Dean Eaker and Gertie OiDIJI1tlgIlllC, beau- ticians, discussing the latest hair fashions. I was very much surprised to see David Lowe, heavyweight champion of the world, and Jim Ramseur, midget wrestler in a flea circus, getting along so well. They were telling artist Ray Yoder about some of their most exciting lights. Discussing their different types of engineering were Jim Robinson, Carl Randolph, Frank Elmore, Jolmny Elmore, James Martin, Larry Puckett and James VVhite. Just then I was very much surprised to see Alice Brackett :nd Bill Parker, who are now married, come in with their twins. They told me they couIdn't hnd a baby sitter. Peggy Goodson, Anne Clippard, and Joyce lloore looked very neat in the airline hostess uniforms. They were trying to talk Phyllis Ross, who is a telephone operator, into becoming an airline hostess. Millionaires Jolmny Cromer, VVayne Burris and Charles Leonard seemed very happy about Rob McGinnis's getting most valuable baseball player award for '63. Ruby NVithers was trying her best to get Bobby Buff, comedian, to stop telling jokes to David Beatty and Ervin Iloyle, Texas cattle raisers, long enough to give her an inter- view for her newspaper. The next thing I knew Nancy Claytor and Dorothy Duncan were trying to redecorate my whole house. Each is a big success in interior decorating work. Joanne Parker and Joyce Self. lady barbers at an air force base, were discussing the man situation. As I thought I had almost gotten around to all the guests, I saw another large group. Pat Auron, French Foreign Le- gionnaire, seemed to be the center of attraction. She was telling Martin Carpenter, State Highway Patrolman: Donnie Carpenter, a merchant: Jim kVarlick, telephone expert, and our three United States Senators, Reginald Ilurt. Johnny Caskey and Claude Brown, about her latest trip across the Sahara Desert. Ry this time the guests were beginning to lile out. As I bade the last of them farewell, a sudden feeling of sadness overwhelmed me. It had been so wonderful seeing everyone again, but now it was all over. VVith a slight shrug I brushed the feeling aside and went to bed. Manx' .ANN RirvNlf. Prophet
