EL SS Univ four short vears ago wc, the crew ol' the L. ll. S. Class ol' Nineteen-hundred and liiltv-three, emharlved on the unpredictahle seas ol' our high school career. Wlith twoahundred lilitv-seven inexperienced and slightlv apprehen- sive hands on hoard, we promptlv selected .lack Carner as our highest oflieer. Despite a liew cases ol' preliminarv seasiclcness, most ol' us managed to come through victorious at the end of the lirst lap ol our vovage. Xrvhen we returned the next fall, ,Iimmv Seagle toolt the helm and piloted us salielv through our Sophomore vear. Hy this time we had acquired our sea legs and could regard with proper scorn and pitv the class behind us. VVe still nevertheless gazed with awe at those whose trip was nearlv completedg and, when at the end of that vear we carried the daisy chain for our Seniors, we wondered il' we would ever reach sale harhor. But we had crossed the halliwav marlx, and were much nearer to our goal than we thought. Again climhing ahoard in our ,lunior vear, we were confronted with new responsihilities. Under the guidance of Carroll Rohinson, howf ever, we sailed through all dilliculties with living colors. VVe successfully' puhlished the ll'olf, our school newspaper, and produced our unior Plav, Rv Anv Other Narnef' And what a great day it was when the class rings we had selected and ordered arrivedl After Christmas our class added something new to the annals ol' Lineolnton l ligh School. VVe hecame the lirst 'lunior Class to plan and prolitahlv sponsor a Valentine Carnival. Wlith the funds earned from this and our other monev-making ventures, we gave the Seniors the time of their lives at the .lunior-Senior. Wle had an extremely prosperous vear in spite of all the chartreuse shirts and purple pants, and the Page iIill'6'lllY-ii'Y HISTORY endless quarrels hetween advocates ol' the ponv tail and the poodle cut. 'lt was with a new and dillierent feeling that we set sail on the last lap of our journey. True. our destination was in sight, hut we had elimhed the last rung ol' the ladder and the height made us dizzv. Nevertheless, we got right to worlv and elected .lerrv Armstrong captain. VVe had no more time to think ol' our sadness, though, so husv were we electing superlatives, putting together our edition of the PINE Bunn, sponf soring a successful Fall Carnival, staging and producing the Senior Plav, and sending invita tions to friends and relatives to Colne see us in our shining hour. XVe, as a class, have plotted our course hv the stars. rliogether we have set our sails with courage and persistence, weathered great storms along with the little stlualls, and now with a lieeling ol' accomplishlncnt we approach our last harhor from which we shall set out on the dangerous sea ol' life. VVe cannot loretell what lies lor us hevond the horizon, hut we know that as long as we live, we shall he grateful to vou, ole lu. ll. S., and rememher these four glorious vears as the hest vears of our livesf, P,Ax'r'n1cm PAGE, Class Historian
