XE' P+'-VX Fil- ag N X ff, b - X , QR X ' ' A Lk 0-tb' XQXX ' qEQifEfE:yfm'- f 4 .T UK-ss LINCOLN WINS STATE ORATORICAL CONTEST LYNX GUNNING FOR ALL CITY SPORTS TROPHY LINCOLN LEADS IN RED CROSS DRIVE 'A' 'lr 'k Thc above headlines and similar ones that appear from time to time in our city papers are a source of pride and satisfaction not only to those who are connected with the school now but also to a host of others students patrons or friends of other years Whois not proud of an organization which can lay claim to recognition as a worthy competitor in almost every field of endeavor' I consider it a high privilege and an honor to have served for twenty three years in a school that has established such a record As this year i945 46 draws to a close l am clearing my desk preparing to turn over to other hands the re sponsibilities which l have carried since September times have been heavy and the problems to be solved have been many Within little more than ten years Lincoln s student body increased from approximately i250 to more than 2700' lts staff of teachers at one time numbered 93 Its graduates from l923 through l9-46 total more than ten thousand With the coming of war the withdrawal of several hundred students to goin various branches of the armed services and to help out in the field of production rc lieved over crowded conditions but introduced prob Iems far more serious There have been many efficient helpers and co work ers chief among these being Mr Lothrop Vice Prin cipal through all the twenty thre years and more We have been fortunate too in having at all times a cap able loyal corps of teachers a constantly changing but always helpful Parent Teacher group and a fine co operative student body My sinccre thanks to all who have contributed toward making Lincoln a delightful school in which to work' .lefoq Wi Wcqgwc 'A' ir 'A' 'k 'A' al' l923, as principal of Lincoln. Ybuv 0' mania l-lavung been a part of thc faculty ever sunce Luncoln opcned uts doors un l907 to become the second hugh school un Seattle l have had the pruluvege of watchung the gradual growth and develop ment from uts burth lt was only a tuny school then wuth about 900 tudents out on the edge of a sparsely settled communuty luttle red school house out un the jungle as Broadway called ut But from thc very furst there devcloped customs habuts udeals outlook on lufe or uf you wull call ut the phulosophy of uts student body wh ch went to make that untanguble but very potent thung whuch us called the Luncoln Spurut lt us thus spurut whuch makes Luncoln dustunct from any other hugh school lt us compounded from the attutude of helpfulness and fruendluness of the pupuls the trauts of honesty and ambutuon and the sense of faur play whuch un these words lt matters not whether we wun or lose but ut us how we wun or lose that counts As the north end developed Luncoln grew untul ut had so many students that thus buuldung could not take care of them all and tvvuce the dustructs has been duvuded and half of uts pupuls were sent off to start a new hugh school furst Queen Anne and then later Roosevelt New people came to take theur places but the Luncoln spurut carrued on as the Soul of the school Now un a short tume Luncoln wull face another duvusuon when the erectuon of the hugh School un the Shore Lune Dustruct wull take away a bug part of uts studcnt body My best wush for Luncoln when that tume comes us that thosc who remaun wull stull carry on and cherush and mauntaun thus won derful spurut whuch has made Luncoln famous Under uts unspura tuon may Luncoln go on to greater and stull greater heughts Dmzceif-414554056 0 0 0 s e A ' , a J . G, McGreer of the British Columbia Parliament, Miss Max- ine Marlow entertained with a Spanish dance. A special luncheon was served and a dance climaxed the activities. Mr, anfl Mrs. Lincoln were portrayed by Shirley Overstreet and Roger Johnson. Tribute was paid to the teachers by presenting them with roses.
