X N I CONGRJITULXI TE THE CLASS OF 1944, Lincoln High School, because they have so Well kept their balance and have lived so sanely in this age when the world is upset by the most terrible War history has known. I congratulate them because they have stayed on in school and have completed their course and will be graduated, instead of having heeded the insistent call of easy money and high Wages which industry offers in this crisis. l am proud of those of the boys who have already entered the armed forces and are doing their part on the many fronts of this great War and of those others who will enter the service this summer after commencement and who will serve as courageously. f s ,. , For the Class of 19-I-4 l Wish success, x not that success which is measured in ' ' f money only, but that success which comes X from becoming the upstanding citizens of , ' 1 the future Who will help guide the des- Xx . .i L tinies of this countr after the War is over -.xi . q S IN .Mx U71 YS this school year, 19-1-3-44, has been an unusually difficult one. It has also been a year rich in oppor- tunity and challenge. Never before has so large a percentage of our boys and girls been employed on part-time jobs, earning high wages, while attending school on a part or full-time schedule. Every one who has really wanted a job has been able to find one. For those who have planned their pro- grams and budgeted their time wisely, this work-experience has been most valu- able, for others, it has been the cause of discouragement and ultimate failure. Most of our senior boys and many of our lower classmen are necessarily look- ing forward to early participation in some branch of military service. They see their friends leaving for induction center and training camp. They feel the urge to be doing their part. ls it any wonder if, sometimes, they have found it difiicult to keep their minds on English, history and science lessons? Families disturbed by war conditions, more home responsibilities on student shoulders, less time for outside prepara- tion of lessons, fewer capable student xi, IN TRUCTION leaders with time to devote to school ac- tivities-all these have taken their toll. But in spite of all handicaps Lincoln has carried on! VVe have won our full share of athletic and scholastic honors. Our representatives at home and in the far corners of the World have brought honors to themselves and to their school. Our thanks and congratulations to each and every one who has helped to keep the Lincoln tradition! 1, 1 -'.,
