Lincoln's elever The Lincoln Lions, after completing a success- ful 7-2 record in '56, started the '57 season with an impressive showing against McKinley and Timken in the preview. Against McKinley, the Lions held the Pups to a scoreless deadlock but were able to move the ball with authority. Their arch-rival Timken was quite stubborn, so the Lions had to settle for another scoreless tie. The Lions controlled the ball for seven of the eight minutes played against Timken. The Lincoln Lions opened the regular season with a hard-fought victory over Cuyahoga Falls 14-7. With iust two minutes remaining in the game, Jerry Lyke crashed over from the three to cap a 60 yard drive, sparked by the fine run- ning of Art De Orio and Tom Dinkins. Both teams played on even terms through most of the encounter. Before 11,000 fans, the Lions went down to their first defeat 'I9-O at the hands of the Massillon Tigers. The Lions should be commend- ed for their fine oFfensive play. Lincoln was in- side MassilIon's ten yard line on four different occasions but couldn't find the power play to go the rest of the way. The explosive running of halfback lvory Beniamin added to Lincoln's woes. On the happy side, the Lions ended their grid relations with Lehman by trimming the Bears 35-7. Speed was our main offensive threat as Lyke, De Orio, and Saimes broke loose for many long runs. Lyke and Saimes scored two touchdowns each and Van Benthuy- sen scored the other as Dinkins added the extra points. 'DNN

Tabellion is preparing to guard the run. fights a tough season Playing before 13,500 fans, the upset minded Lincoln Lions went down to their second defeat 27-7 to the State champion McKinley Bulldogs. Lincoln held a halftime lead of 7-6 as Dinkins threw to De Orio for a touchdown with iust 'I6 seconds remaining until halftime. The second half proved to be the same old tale as McKinley scored three times to climax the game. Chalking up their third win against two set- backs, the Lions downed a determined Canton A Canton South player is snowed under by four lincoln gridders. South Wildcat team 39-18. Lincoln completely dominated the first half of play by quickly scoring four touchdowns to lead 26-0 at halt- time. Jerry Lyke and Art De Orio again proved to be the opponent's headache as they scored two touchdowns each. Dinkins and Saimes each tallied a touchdown as the four backfield men led the charge. ln the second half, the Lincoln reserves saw most of the action as Lincoln ended their grid relations with South. The ball is free for the first of these two players who grabs it.
