The 4-H's on our emblem, the clover leaf, stand for Head, Heart, Hand and Health. HEAD -- for .clearer thinking. HEART - for greater loyalty. HAND - for larger service. HEALTH - for better living. With a combined membership of one hundred ten, the junior and senior 4-H Clubs have taken an active part in school and community life. Ar Christmas the club distributed baskets to the needy, in February it sponsored an annual basket and bunco social, and in April presented :1 variety program. The organization also entered the 4-H play contest which was held at Cromwell. In the preceding year several members attended the State Fair and brought honors to the club. Edward Maki, Clifford Johnson and John Johnson attended as a judging team, while Hulda: Tan, Helmi Kivisto and Alice Sampson represented the sewing club with a demonstration. Helen Tan entered the cake baking contest. Ar the Activities Banquet senior members with the required number of points will be pre- sented emblems for their achievements. The officers of the senior club are: president, Ainie Maki, vice-president, Hulda Tang sec- retary, Mildred Nelson, treasurer, Genelle Huffmang and reporter, Velmi Maki. The executive council consists of the senior officers, general chairmen of the committees, junior leaders, a representative of the junior club and the adult leaders. Glee Club FIRST ROW: Betty Esko, Eva Raisanen, Marian Bergstedt, Edna Koski, Bernice Hill, Emmeline Baisley, Lucille Gronquist, Mable Bergstedt, Joyce Juntuneng SECOND ROW: Isaac Esko, director, Bernice Maunu, Gloria Rich- ardson, Velma Maki, Luella Juntunen, Alice Sunnarborg, lrene Ukura, lone Mallory, Fern Mattson, Nina Mae Johnson: THIRD ROW: Mildred Mallinen, Mavis Korby, Dorothy Luokkala, Gladys Juntti, Lillian Luokkala, Hel- en Knuti, Alice Sampson, Frances Dyer, Shirley Johnson, Florence Korby. The Thomson High School Glee Club was organized four years ago under the direction of Mr. Isaac Eslco. The club now consists of thirty-three members who sing mostly four part music. Ten girls of the organization form the Chamber Music Group. The Glee Club is one of the busiest organizations in our school. In the year of 1938-39, they sang at an Easter program at the Finnish Lutheran Church in Duluth, the Contest Festival in Proctor, Christmas program at the Washington School, band and glee club concert, and the baccalaureate and commencement exercises. iDuring the present year, 1939-40, the organization made a radio broadcast over station WEBC, Duluth, sang at P.T.-A Christmas program, and Finnish relief program at the Midway Church. The Chamber Music group also sang at many of the above mentioned places and also for the Finnish relief program at the Hillside School. The officers of the organization are: President, Florence Korbyg Secretary-treasurer, Fran- ces Dyer, and Librarian, Luella Juntunen. twenty-six 4 Y..-,.,4..c..., ... --
