Future Farmer Basketball 1939-40 was a husy season for the F.F.A. basketball team, which was managed by Lauri Kortesmalci and coached by Les Knuti. In February they sponsored the District Eight F. F. A. tournament at Eslco. In the State F.F.A. tournament held at Minneapolis, they reached the quar- ter finals. The team played six games for Finnish Benefit. The outstanding game was that played against the Mur- phy Finance Team at the Duluth Armory on All Sports Night. l twenty-three

All of the various phases of Future Farmer work have been carried on- by the Thomson chapter. Each student carried a complete farm practice program. Experimental trial plots were con- ducted, and grain and potato seed were treated. The members of the Thomson chapter participated in the District Seven and state judging contests, the Livestock Marketing School at St. Paul, public speaking contest, chapter conducting contest, Parents' and Sons' banquet, the District Seven banquet at Eveleth, and published the District Seven News Letter. Three members-William Wainio, Edward Maki, Lauren Hiukka played in the state F.F.A. band. Clifford Johnson won first place from Carlton County in the Duluth Chamber of Com- merce F.F.A. farm practice contest. The Minnesota state farmer degree was awarded to Charles Lehto. As this goes to press, Edward Maki, Clifford Johnson and Lauren Hiukka have made ap- plication for State Farmer degrees. if Mr. Seth Fisher is the adviser.
