B Squad tri. 1 Standing left to right: Floyd Huima, Viljo Ware, Roy Maunu, Howard Hemmila, Elton Lassila, Kenneth Erickson. Seated: Harland Juntunen, Burton Lehto and Howard Juntunen. Basketball The team passed through a successful season losing only three games in conference compe- tition. The Tommies along with Carlton represented the sub-district at the district tournament in Duluth. The team was unfortunate in drawing the tournament champs, Two Harbors, and it was defeated in the first game. Captain Edwin Koivisto, high-scoring senior center, was one of the finest offensive players Esko has had. ' Forrest Larson, senior forward, used his height to considerable advantage under the bank- boards. Kenneth Hallback, our star guard, was kept out by injuries most of the season. Oswald Koivisto and Edwin Bergstedt, two diminutive senior forwards, were a constant threat to the opponent. Leslie Seikkula, junior guard and three-year letterman, received the free-throw trophy for the second consecutive year. John Johnson, small but shifty guard, was a constant scorer all season. Bill Wainio, a three-year letterman, was out with a knee injury during the first semester. Clifford Johnson, junior forward, although handi- K capped by size, made up for this by continually out fak- ing larger opponents. Elton Lassila, playing his first season with the Tommies, was a consistent scorer. Last but not least there's Coach L. Knuti and Stu- ,MH dent Manager Bill Baisley. The boys enjoyed playing i under Mr. Knuti and they also appreciate the care the manager took in handling their equipment. The Bees copped the conference BH team title for the third successive season. nineteen -...-........--......,..,. ....,,...,..-,.,.7,.... .,,. ..... . ,.,-,,,, ,M -U-A 1
