The opening of the Student Center and Carroll Hall were significant steps forward in the program of increasing the campus facilities. More students attended Lincoln College in this year than any in its previous history. With the growth, however, the College will continue to service to the student. We like to think that Lincoln and will continue to be, a precision instrument in the world during an era when many institutions have become instruments of mass production. emphasize College is, academic necessarily I Want to congratulate the editors of the Lynxite for selecting as their theme the College motto which liberally translated means The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The continuation of the scripture in Proverbs is HA knowledge of the holy is understand ing. Lincoln College is proud to be an interefaith institution with students and staff members who come from a wide variety of denomina- tions and faiths. ln developing our philosophy of education and our individual philosophies of life, we hope that the students and faculty will be inspired to follow the traditions of simplicity, sincerity, and service as exemplified in the life of our great namesake, Abraham Lincoln. With all good wishes to each of you for the years ahead. Cordially yours, 4 . , R nd Dooley President 5

DEDICATIO Roger cushman We, the staff of the 1963 Lynxite, proudly dedicate our yearbook to a man who has given time, effort, and advice to the Lynxite. In the two years as a faculty member at Lincoln he has taught English and Journalism classes and on the side has been advisor to both the newspaper and yearbook. Yet he still had time to spare to become a staff member for the Bloomington Pantagraph for a total of nine years. His education consisted of attending Illinois Normal University where he received a Bachelor Degree and now is working part time at Illinois Southern University for his masters in English. Therefore we dedicate this Lynxite to you, Mr. Roger Cushman, for your time and advice given to us, your staff, as well as many other students. Now after two years of service to Lincoln College you have decided to leave. To this we wish you the best of happiness in whatever you partake. We thank you for your understanding and interest in the rights and freedoms of the individual which has really shown us, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom, Lynxite Staff 6
