Vocational Studies Aid Our Future Lives The home economics curriculum con- sists of the following subject matter: Home Nursing, Housing, Home Furn- ishings, and Home Management; Family Relations and Child Development; Foods and Nutrition; Consumer Education; and Clothing and Textiles. Several phases of the subject materials are taught at each grade level . Vocational agriculture begins with the basic study of livestock and crop pro- duction. As the boys advance in the vo- cational agriculture curriculum, they learn the managerial aspects of farming in the classroom (with projects) and on the farm. Judging livestock, crops, and soil adds to their experience. Learning farm mechanics rounds out their final year of studying agriculture. Working with wood, the freshmen shop boys learn to use hand tools. Advancing to power tools the next year, they con- struct projects from metal, wood, and plastic. Juniors and seniors study drawingand blueprints in drafting. They finish with a floor plan of a house. Watch those Pinkies, Leroy ! Crumbs, in my slide rule? Mother ' s little helpers. Health and Safety Go Hand in Hand Physical education is a two-year require- ment for all high school students. Its pri- mary purpose is to develop physical skills as well as physical fitness. Health and safety, which is required for all sophomores, emphasizes learning how the body functions as well as the essentials of the healthy life. Due to the expanded na- tional interests in total physical fitness, these courses have a growing importance in our high school curriculum. Driver education strives to tighten the loose nut behind the wheel or to loosen the tight nut from behind the wheel. It is offered to develop the attitude, judgment, and fundamental skills necessary to pre- vent traffic accidents with their tragic sacrifice of human lives. Up — down, Up--down! Appreciation of Art and Music Is Stressed Enjoying music and having fun. The art course must include a variety of art fields to give a sampling rather than a comprehensive teaching of arts and crafts. It is possible to have an art major or minor if the student has some ability and a strong willingness to work. Our music program has two departments: instrumental and vocal. The purposes are to give the students a basic music education and to provide a center for cultural and artistic development in our educational system through public con- tests and appearances.
