Facts and Figures Fly Thru a Busy World Eyes on your copy ! The first year of mathematics includes algebra or general math which teaches the fundamental ideas later applied in advanced courses. Lines and angles, circles and squares, theorems and as- sumptions, are all part of sophomore geometry. The junior year is filled with trigonometry and solid geometry. To terminate the four years, advanced al- gebra is taught as a senior subject. Commerce requires accuracy and ef- ficiency which are the basic principles in office work. Students are instructed in general business, bookkeeping. Typing I and II, Shorthand I and II, and office practice. Future secretaries learn to take dictation, to type correct letter forms, and to master business arith- metic. Graduates find that business education is helpful in securing a good position. Students Link Yesterday with Tomorrow Relaxing at LHS. No, the ear doesn ' t go there. No silly- -that ' s not China. Physics labs are fun. Where is Texas? Beginning in the sophomore year, the student learns where America stands in the history of the world by taking world history. In the junior year the develop- ment of our country from the colonial period to the present is studied in U.S. history. Government and economics are the subjects studied by the seniors. In Government the student is taught how our government is run. In economics he is taught how our economic system is op- erated and how it is compatible with our system of government. The science course begins with biology in the freshman year. Biology reveals the secrets of the living cell, both plant and animal. The power of energy and how it performs work is studied in physics during the junior year. The atom, the elements, and the properties of compounds and ions are studied in chemistry during the senior year.

Health and Safety Go Hand in Hand Physical education is a two-year require- ment for all high school students. Its pri- mary purpose is to develop physical skills as well as physical fitness. Health and safety, which is required for all sophomores, emphasizes learning how the body functions as well as the essentials of the healthy life. Due to the expanded na- tional interests in total physical fitness, these courses have a growing importance in our high school curriculum. Driver education strives to tighten the loose nut behind the wheel or to loosen the tight nut from behind the wheel. It is offered to develop the attitude, judgment, and fundamental skills necessary to pre- vent traffic accidents with their tragic sacrifice of human lives. Up — down, Up--down! All wrapped up in their work. You can ' t measure the gym that way! Where ' s the motor?
