Breaking Through Communication Barriers The first year of Latin is a study of the forms and constructions of the language with stress on its application to English, literature, and culture. The second year adds a more complete knowledge of the language such as Caesar ' s commen- taries. In all areas of life there is a need for effective oral communication. Speech students gain confidence by speaking in front of their classmates. Their goal is to be able to speak in any situation at any time in a capable manner. The English Department is using an in- tegrated program this year. Through this we hope to eliminate the artificial division of English into two subjects-- English and Literature. All aspects of our language --literature, composi- tion, grammar, and speech- -are being taught as a single unified subject. Is it colored chalk? Votes are in! Carols ' our new teacher!
