FUTURE HOMEMARERS OF AMERICA The Ligonier F.H.A. became an honor chapter by fulfilling all of the state goals required. Marcia Bowen was elected historian of the Northeast District. The chapter goals for this year stressed the improv ?nent of personal, family, and community living. The various activities included the preparation of a float for the Labor Day parade, and the presentation of Life ' s Blueprint. Mrs. O. R. Bangs visited with the chapter and explained how it could better serve the needs of the older people of our community. An informative speech by Ruth Behnke, FARM JOURNAL foods editor, and Mary Wilder, home demonstration agent, dealt with the future in home economics. Shortly before Christmas Peter Marshall ' s book LET ' S KEEP CHRISTMAS was presented to the chapter. We had a Daddy Date Night for all the girls and their fathers; a brain storm on What Are Our Problems proved of interest to all the girls. In activities outside the local area our chapter was well represented. Seven members attended the State Convention, and one, the National Convention. Mr. Hooker FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The F.F.A. is a national organization for students of vocational agri- culture. It consists of local chapters chartered by state associations. The F.F.A. is designed to provide training opportunities for boys who are planning to become farmers. Each member must have either a livestock or crop project. These projects give practical experience and develop individual interest. Everyone has a voice in making the rules and regulations which govern his action. The members take a major trip each year. This year our projects for the chapter were five acres of com and half an acre of sorghum. Then in the spring we sold garden seeds. While we were working on our projects, we participated in land, live- stock, poultry, and dairy judging. We also organized a basketball team. 57 FRONT ROW (left to right): Linda Peterson, Marcia Bowen, Bonnie White, Virginia Hull, Jill Smith, and Leleni Sheppard.
