Lessons in world history and economics teach students the achievements man has made through the ages and keeps them well-informed on the events of the present. Mr, Glen Longenbaugh and Mr. Jack Ribel mold us into good citizens who recognize the duties and privileges of good government. Under the able guidance of Mr. Joseph Starkey and Mr, Cecil Yoder the science department has progressed rapidly. Early emphasis is placed on health in the seventh grade and general science in the eighth. Moving on into high school the students encounter biology in their freshman year and the mysteries of plants and animal life. The sophomore review rules of health and safety while the juniors and seniors plunge into the science of motion, mat ter and energy in their physics and chemistry classes. Air Careful! Said Coach 2 I ' Beck, The boys never gave up. 1 The net men lost 5 seniors: Jim Adams, guard, Kent dd , A - l . . V , f Cunningham, forward, Eldon Berkey, center, Mike Seniff, guard, and Bill Moore, forward. Such names . as Ronnie Patton, John Shoudel, Jerry Cooper, Gay West, Jerry Miller, and others will be seen again on next year's roster. The Raiders, ending up with a 9-11 season, eamed their first victory when they defeated the Wawaka Warriors, an inexperienced, yet always threatening team. The next two games saw the varsity five defeated by the Albion Trojans, county champs of '59, in a hotly contested game, and the Millersburg Millers, a strong offensive team. I --- The powerful Angola Hornets met defeat at the hands of the Raiders in an exciting overtime game. As the Jon Bonfield, statistici-an, and Ken three minutes of overtime play were fast diminishing, Eililissgfdfrlfllit51nSS1Qa?Egg.eHJ0Y Jim Adams was fouled and sunk the basket that did the trick for the victorious Raiders, The next week the Ligonier team went to Kendallville for one of the biggest and longest anticipated games of the season. Being in top physical and mental con- dition, they gave an outstanding performance defeating the Comets by a score of 70-62. The Raiders met defeat when they encountered Columbia City and North Webster, but came back 4424 ,, 't , J ' 'J 5 to win against the Waterloo team 57 -50. The next three games were disasterous for the Raiders as they lost to Shipshewana -Scott 52-54, Middlebury 49-68, and Wolf Lake 76-45. The Raiders won over the Lions of LaGrange in a real thriller, the final score being 65-62, lost to the Rome City Romans by 7 points, and defeated the Churubusco Eagles 63-62. This game could be considered another feather in the cap of the Raiders. Kosciusco Cotuity Champs, the Syracuse Yellow Jackets, had a tough time defeating the big five but finally managed to outscore them by 3 points. The Raiders lost no time in coming back as they defeated the Kingsmen of Penn Township by a score of 80--19. The last two games found the Raiders victorious over the Avilla Panthers and then in the final game of the season lost a tough one to the Cromwell Spartans. 2.4 '22 2. PEP BAND l . FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA The Ligonier F.H.A. became an honor chapter by fulfilling all of the goals required. For the first time in the history of the Ligonier F.H.A. Chapter, a member, Glenda Cripe, became a district officer. She is treasurer of the Northeast District. The Chapter stressed public rela- tions this year. The various activities included preparing a float for the Labor Day Parade, placing apples on each teacher's desk, having a Sweetheart Dance, giving a panel discussion led by Mr. O. R. Bangs, our County Probation Officer, going to church as a group, and inviting the grandmothers of the members to participate in a panel discussion about Grandmothers Daze. Our national project is Our Neighbors at Home and Abroad. Our state project is Marriage, Career--and Education for Both. We invited Sina lvankawitsch, a Russian born teenager living in our community, to talk about What the United States Has Done for Me. Several girls enjoyed a wonderful and inspiring time at our State Convention at Indiana University. 62 Wg..
