'f1': 'v 'I LTTYJW 'LY' 'C' B'C Since 1877, the spirit of Ligonier High School has called quietly, yet stirringly, to its students. It is intangible - an unseen thing, but it is always with us. It is all around us: in the quiet atmosphere of the classroom, in the crowded confusion of the halls at dismissal time, in the cheerful gaiety of the lunchroom, and in the boisterous enthusiasm of the gymnasium. The school spirit is a part of us from the day we first set foot inside the building until the time comes when we must leave its doors for the last time, the solemn strains of Pomp and Circumstancen still ringing in our ears, to take our places as citizens of our community and of our nation. lt lingers with us when, as alumni, we recall the priceless friendships and experiences of high school life. In the pages of THE LANCE, the voice of the school spirit gains new volume, new force. It is reflected in the words, pictures, and events recorded here. If those who read this book are reached, even slightly, by that voice - that spirit - as they turn these pages and recall the happenings of the year T952-53, we of the staff will feel that our purpose has been accomplished.
