It always seems so loolish for a student to be sent out of class for an excuse blank when the teacher knows the student was there or she would not have him sent out. The student rose from his seat and stumbled out of the room to have a pleasant interview with the Superintendent. 'lihis was the thing he hated to do most. Not hearing, or not being able to understand what was said, illr. Allen kept on counting money, said nothing and did not even look up to see who was address- ing him. Blix Allen, the student managed to get this out of his month at last and 1 llr. Allen looked np with an expressionless face then lowered his head, and counted money. Wvell at any rate it there is anything makes a -tudcnt nerxous and frightened it is going to Xlr. :Xllen for an absence slip which thejt know will be one of the colored type. L. H. S. THE L-liX.N'I.JL 1924 'AYou see the teachers have enough to do teaching school without watching some student all the time who doesn't know how to act. This was a fairly long speech by llr. Allen, as he is not accustomed to say any more than is necessary like many people do. This is the fourth time this year for you? Yes, the student admitted. You were sent from a class yesterday for a similar offense? --vas. I don't know what to do about it. Do you think you ought to have another chance ? YVell, I w-w-would like to have another chance, the student replied. You think then. that three times is not enough? NYC-ll. l believe I can do hetter the next time. Here there is a very long hreak in the conversation and the student almost decided to leave, but renewed his courage with the thought in mind that he might have to take the subject again next year. This is my junior year and I feel that l shall have enough to do next year without taking English III over againfl said the student. You should have thought of that before, replied Klip. Allen. However, I will give you one more chance but. flzix is nfl. These last three words were emphasized. lt you ever get sent from class again you needn't come to me for an excuse. l won't give it to you. 'lihe student accepted the yellow hlank with more thanks in his heart than anyone ever felt hefore. -KARL BOURIE In History III class over a discusrion ot the negro question.
