Our minds mirror living mem- ories of established traditions, of classes, of teachers who have stirred our curiosity, of games, of formal occasions, of sports that contributed many golden hours, and, of kindly, gentle friendships both temporary and lasting. . . S. is a fine comprehensive high school unit. The accomplishments this year have been many and varied. The 1959 LORE illustrates the diversity of activities and the quality of the educational program. XVe have in L. H. S. the essentials of a great institution of secondary education. Our improved fortunes are due to many factors, but particularly to the splendid devotion to the high ideals which are evident in the attitude of the board of education, faculty and students. As a student and alumnus, L. H. S. requires your in- terest, loyalty, and cooperation so as to continue its growth in offering quality education for all students who will attend. May you reflect on the truths and knowl- edges learned and the skills of eternal questioning and learning about the enigma of living in your environment of the future. MISS GLADYS S. MCCAULEY B.A. Acting Principal Lewistown Senior High School ffl 4 . :J MR. RICHARD H. BARTHOLOMEW B.A., M.Ed. Superintendent of Public Schools Lewistown, Pennsylvania In retrospect I see many beautiful pictures in the memory hall of L. H. S. I see our honor students with their scholarship cups, our teams with their trophies, our Waslaiimgton trip, our LORE, our plays, our student council, our music organizations, debat- ing teams, proms, Commencement on Mitchell lfield, and our youth who went forth to war with the hope of making a realm of truth and right. But the fondest memory which dims all others is of the boys and girls who sat in these classrooms and of their hopes and aspirations. I seem to hear the laughter which rang through the halls, and see their faces eager and happy with the simple joys which make youth so wonderful. As I think of the years gone by, I hope and pray that this school, which we urevere and honor, has given To her sons and daughters the principles of right living, the courage to meet adversity, the love of mankind of all races and creeds, and the training to assume the responsibilities which will enable them to meet the vicissitudes of life. And finally in the last picture, I'll always hope to see the youth of L. H. S. meeting the worlu with head held high and with the open countenance which calls to mind the words of Socrates, I have never secretly or openly done a wrong to any man 5 , S MR. Joi-iN A. The Owls drew first blood by driving 73 yards for a touchdown on the opening kickoff. Powell took the next kickoff and raced 90 yards for the first Panther score, and from there on it was all Lewistown. LEWISTOWN 34-BELLEFONTE 6 Continuing to monopolize the offense, Lewistown won rather handily over a Hghting Bellefonte team. Sprout was the star as he gained 148 yards in five carries, one being a 93-yard touchdown run. LEWISTOWN 53 --TYRONE 6 The Panthers electrified the Tyrone fans by scoring two touchdowns on their first two scrimmage plays. Long runs and smooth play in every phase of the game led to the overwhelming victory. Powell and Sprout stood out in offense, scoring three and two touchdowns respectively. LEWISTOWN 40-CAPTAIN JACK 0 Thirteen unlucky! Oh, no! Not for Coach Ufema's boys who won their thirteenth consecutive victory by trouncing the Trojans 40-0. Powell and Searer each scored two touchdowns to spark the victory. LEWISTOWN 47-STATE COLLEGE 34 It was just a case of too many horses again as Lewistown's mighty grid machine, geared for its toughest test of the season, ran and passed at will to keep State College from the unbeaten ranks. Stoieheff and Powell scored three touchdowns each. LEWISTOWN 26-LOCK HAVEN 7 An inspired brand of tough defensive football by the Bobcats forced the Panthers to a passing game. Thr highlight of the game was jeff Brown's 85-yard run of the opening kickoff. LEWISTOWN 44--COAL TOWNSHIP 6 Lewistown High football team convinced local and area fans that it was everything publicists have honored, as the Panthers unleashed another smotherin., attack to level Coal Township by 44-6. LEWISTOWN 38 - CHIEF LOGAN 0 Undefeated Lewistown extended its winning streak to seventeen games against a fighting Mingo team Powell and Stoicheff stood out on offense. Powell gained 179 yards rushing, and Stoicheff accounted for two touchdowns. LEWISTOWN 41 -SELINSGROVE 6 Lewistown encountered little trouble in subduin Selinsgrove. Stoicheff scored four touchdowns though he carried the ball just six times and gained a tot.1l of 251 yards. LEWISTOWN 80 -HUNTINGDON 14 Outstanding on offense and superb on defense, Lewis town crushed Huntingdon by an overwhelming score This record not only gave the Panthers their second undefeated season in the last two years, but also it made them the outstanding team of the Central Counties Conference and the co-champions of the Western Conference. Powell, -jeff Brown, and Stoi cheff gained 180, 165, and 140 yards respectively Powell had four touchdowns, ,jeff Brown three, Rod key two, and Searcr, Tom Brown, and Sprout had one each. Continuing to dominate the Mountain league, Coach Joseph Sieehitanos Bahy Panthers wound up the 1988-S9 season with 41 praiseworthy 17 wins and 3 losses. Although the team laeked a height advantage in many of the games, they made up for this through their scrappy play and skill. Through continued and hard practice sessions, the ,lay- vees showed much improvement throughout the season. Tom Brown, Mike Price, and Corky Lutz led the team in scoring and Timmy Thompson in rebounding. Tom XViklund, with his varied shots and topnoteh ball handling, excelled in the playmaking department. In the past thirteen years, Mr. Sieehitano has led the Jayvce teams to ten Mountain League championships and four undefeated seasons.
