As one of our most revered and beloved faculty members, she has won a perma- nent place in the hearts of her former and present students. In addition to her school work Miss Cressman has also taken an interest in community affairs and is an active member of her church. ln her many years of service to our school she has participated also as a class adviser and an adviser to the school press. Although her daily schedule is a busy one, Miss Cressman often remains after school to give students further help. To increase the scope of those who enjoy mathematics, she has initiated slide rule and graph classes after school. The stu- dents of these classes always appreciate very much her deep interest in their behalf. As a result of her untiring efforts in stressing speed and accuracy, our Mathematics Department has achieved high standards. The 1957 Lore pays tribute to Miss Cressman for her aid in establishing our foundations for the future. WORKING WITH ceramics is one of Miss Cress- man's many outside interests. On the table she exhibits several pieces of her handiwork. SUCCESSFUL AS an amateur gardener with both trees and Bowers, Miss Cressman shows a senior her beautiful dogwood tree. we dedicate our fare QMS-T? -.M f., 1 xx. f.., MISS ESTHER CRESSMAN MR. Sportsmanship and teamwork LEWISTOWN 38-SUNBURY 0 Ofhcially the football season opened in Lewistown on September 7 with the Panthers trouncing the Sunbury Cwls. Charlie Crawford starred as he completed 10 out of 10 passes. LEWISTOWN 33-BELLEFONTE 6 Bellefonte journeyed to Lewistown for a battle, in which the Panthers emerged the victor. The Maroon and Steel grid men displayed a tremendous air-and-ground attack in romping over the Red Raiders. LEWISTOWN 12-TYRONE 19 Gray Field and the Golden Eagle line plus a little fellow named Tony Scordo proved unfriendly to the locals. Lewistown led 12-7 at the half, but Tyrone rallied in the second half to score twice. Sprout was an offensive star, while Searer stood out on defense for L. H. S. LEWISTOWN 20-CAPTAIN JACK 6 Playing in Mitchell Field, the Panthers resumed their winning ways. Captain Jack managed to hold L. H. S. to a 6-6 tie at half time, but the Panthers ground out two touchdowns in the second half to win another victory. Jim Bannon and Dennis Zook excelled on defense. LEWISTOWN 27-STATE COLLEGE 12 Stage Colleges Little Lions allowed the Panthers only a meager lead at half time, but as usual the L. H. S. gridders rallied to crush the Little Lions. Gary Sprout led the Panthers by rushing the ball 178 yards. LEWISTOWN 34-LOCK HAVEN 0 In chalking their fifth victory, the Panthers scored at will as the Bobcats were outplayed in every department. All team members participated to share equally in the Panther glory. LEWISTOWN 41-BELLWOOD-ANTIS 7 Bellwood-Antis tried unsuccessfully to stymie the power- ful Panther eleven. Halfbacks Gil Varner and Mike Brown led the team offensively. LEWISTOWN 12-CHIEF LOGAN 0 Lewistown continued its winning ways at the expense of the Chief Logan Mingos, a neighboring rival. A muddy gridiron hampered the Ufema men's scoring attack, but the defense was tough as the entire line menaced the Mingo ball carriers. LEWISTOWN 13-DANVILLE 7 Mud again provided the football teams with sloppy play- ing conditions. Lewistown scored in the first half on an intercepted pass and on a blocked kick. All-State candi- date Pete Searer blocked the kick, which rolled into the end zone to be recovered for a touchdown. The Ironmen of Danville scored in the second half. Threat of another touchdown was short-lived as the Panther defense stiffened. LEWISTOWN 26-HUNTINGDON 39 In the last game of the season Huntingdon's shock troops surprised the Panthers by grabbing a 26-0 lead at the half. The second half was a free-scoring affair, in which Lewistown tallied four times, but the Bearcats registered two more touchdowns to win the game. Gary Sprout led the Panthers in the offensive department. VARSITY B plays against Saltillo. Jeff Brown is tripped up on a left-end sweep, as he follows his blockers downfield.
