McCauley, our friendly counselor, does much toward building good character in the pupils. She recognizes the individual personalities of each student and is sympathetic with his problems. Each year, everyone has some contact with Miss McCauley, for she helps him find the most suitable course, and she explains the required number of credits. She is constantly on the alert for help- ful information regarding vocations, col- lege scholarships, and other material use- ful to seniors. Miss McCauley also helps plan the social affairs of the school, such as the Junior Prom, the Dinner Dance, and the Class Picnic. Secretaries 11 , L 1, .,.... ,J- d. 0 ff l 4 MISS GLADYS S. Ihltll WITH A VARIETY OF COURSES K' L 7 ,ah QU'EST-CE QUE CEST? French class is in prog- ress. Listening and understanding the conversation on a French record is one of the rewards of this course. Spanish and Latin are taught also in our school. SOME FUTURE scientists mix and stir the various chemicals to find that perpetually elusive con- clusion. Laboratory work with the class work aids the pupils in discovering the mysteries of nature. gk TO CH00 E FROM PRACTICE makes perfect. In office practice pupils receive not only a course in filing, but also instruction and practice on the dilferent forms and machines used in business ollices. 4,- 5 I X TAKE a letter! Stenography is a course that teaches students to take dictation rapidly and transcribe accurately with emphasis on grammar, punctuation, and appearance of mailable transcripts. N. IN ORDER to understand our modern economic system, a knowledge of bookkeeping is very important. Pupils learn to keep adequate records, which business and professional people need. 'S X PLA F OR PUPILS ARE encouraged to follow their particular interests in art, The picture shows art students working on landscapes in oil, working in two-color OUR FUTURE ,1, . . block prints, and glazing pottery, Art appreciation and field trips are included in the course. A CLASS of American History watches the screen as past and present events are portrayed. American History teaches us the mistakes of the past to prevent those of the future. SUSIE SENIORS are preparing for future homes by learning to cook on the attractive, modern stoves in the home-making department. Instruction on proper diet is an essential part of tln- course. FUTURE hom:-makers are husily at work. Lmely dresses and suits emerge from this workshop, for the fundamentals of planning and making clothes are taught in sewing class. J. H. S. offers opportunities to interested pupils in both the junior and senior departments. The band attended all football games and presented interesting drills before the home games and during halftime at the away games. It also took part in several parades during the year. Many band members participated in County Band and also the South Central Dis- trict Band. The latter was a three-day festival, which was held in our school. There were 175 students representing 27 schools. The annual spring concert and commencement exercises ended the band's activities. The junior band drilled at several football games and really distinguished itself by taking honors in the Halloween parade. The junior and senior orchestras play for their respective assembly programs. Two mem- bers, Freda Stade and Larry Stetler, of the senior orchestra participated in the District Orchestra. The newly organized Band Boosters Club promoted several projects this year, and expect to do more in the years to come. Back row, left to right: Yocum, M. Aurand, Beckwith, Knepp. D. Rogers production directed by Robert S. Bancroft, presented many song and dance routines interspersed with humorous skits. In the play the main divisions, North, South, West, and East, represented different sections of the United States and served as backgrounds for the action of the revue. PYGMIES AND SANTA THE SNOWMEN I352 GRAND FINALE In the North, Santa Claus reigned supreme while Scotch Dolls, Snowmen, and Pygmies frolicked. The Southern helles and their beaus appeared in a graceful number. The cowgirls and the cowboys portrayed the West and a night club scene typified the East. The entire cast appeared in the grand finale of the 1952 gala performance. THRILL THE HUMETOWNAUDIENCES THE WIDE OPEN SPAKIES One of the most outstanding events of the senior year is the Annual Senior Class Play, in which a large majority of the class can partici- pate. Selection of the play is made at the begin- ning of the year, and arrangements for the director are also completed. Approximately two weeks before the play, tryouts are held, and the Seniors are chosen for solos, choruses, and skits. The following weeks are filled with rehear- sals, publicity meetings, and ticket selling. Hearty laughs and good fun, which a group activity offers, intermingle with the hard work. Suddenly, almost too soon, it is the night of dress rehearsal. Then comes the time everyone has been waiting for-opening night! IN FOOTBALL WE For the first time, the Lewistown Joint High School football team recorded the most brilliant page in its athletic history, an unde- feated, untied season. Between the lines, one may read all that happened to accomplish that bright record, long unglamorous hours of exhausting work by the team, unremitting grind on the part of the the wholehearted coaches and trainer, and support of the student body and faculty. The football season will never be forgotten and will always remain a cherished memory. Left to right: Alexander Ufema, head coach of football and basketballg Jay M. Lives of, great men all remind us We can make our lives sublime, And, departing leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time. From A PSALM OF LIFE by Henry W'adsworth Longfellow JS Just beginning the road to knowledge are these small children. Through the succeeding years their minds will grow in wisdom and their souls in character. The children of today are the foundation for a greater tomorrow, OPPOSITE PAGE: Ready to step into the adult world are the seniors of the class of 1952.
