Superintendent of Public Schools Lewistown. Pennsylvania The trcnd to expand government areas in- cludes the formation of larger school ad- ministrative units. Such a forward step was taken here this year when Decatur and Cran- ville- were joined with Lewistown. The peo- ple and school hoards arc now a unit in school government and support. This lmrings the students into a closer rclationship in a school that is their own in every way. The Class of '51 has well chosen an appropriate thcmo for The Lore. thus recording an event of igrnilicance in educational historv. CALviN V. We hope that your time spent here has meant much more to you than the acquisition of many facts and the learning of new skills and techniques. It should have meant for each of you a broadened horizon, a quicken- ing of your search for truth, and the develop- ment of your personality and character to make you a more useful and constructive member of your community. This publication contributes a permanent record of events and presents a ready refer- ence for face and fact. It is our hope that you have experienced many of the finer things of life, which will be meaningful to you and helpful to those with whom you come in contact. R. H. MACLAY MISS GLADYS S. Staff0l'd, Slee- The music program in L.J.H.S. provides an opportunity for everyone to participate in vocal and instrumental activities. Long range planning has made possible a con- tinuous program of instrumental music through the intermediate grades and Junior Department into Senior Department. At football games the Band furnishes the team with spirited moral support, and its many drills add interest to the game. The newly formed Junior High Band joined the Senior Band in playing at the West York game. The climax of the Band's activities comes with its presentation of a spring con- cert and its participation in commencement exercises. The Orchestra plays for assembly pro- grams, and a small selected group provides music for the Senior Class Play. Through A Cappella, Mixed Chorus, Boys' Chorus, and Glee Clubs, opportunity is given for vocal expression.
