CUR ULILEE IMITED -X Mx Ali 4 DEDICATION At the mid-point of a century of intensive research and progress, we must review the advantages afforded us in our own education toward better living. We become so engrossed in the visible, practical application of our high school careers that we fail to recognize the enriching factors of our daily associations within the portals of Lewis- town High School. By the guidance of our faculty we are learning how to live in our ever-changing world. To our teachers and to the high ideals of our school, we, the class of 1950, gratefully dedicate our volume of memories. When the mem- bers of this class have sought their goals and have attained heights of success, the values to which we have dedicated our Lore shall be fully realized. vii 1' Vg vf .. f 'fry ' , 0 s A, m A '96 kkk' 'M W W , L Msi'ffg i 4 x Q J A, .X 5 'Q if . 5 ' fiff V ZL. ,L W ff my ' Aff 4 E, ,,:q?Z' ,, A M .,LA P, I A F r 5 fl .. Q 01,004 One of the five curricula in LHS is the academic, which has for its major pur- pose the preparation for entrance to college. Since college requirements differ, pupils select and follow in high school a course of study that will enable them to enter the college of their choice. Seniors are performing experiments in Mr. Howe's chemistry class. ACADEMIC Mr. Sicchitano's social studies class de- rives beneiits from visual aids. Here are shown pupils learning to sketch and to paint in Mr. McKinney's art class. Art may be elected as a credit subject. K-. TG THE FUTURE The commercial curriculum provides a practical education lor those who desire to be employed as a secretary or bookkeeper in business and profes- sional ollicesg as a retail sales person, or as a clerk: and in some cases, en- trance to collegiate commercial schools. Commercials seem to be very busy in Mr. Houser's class. Penmanship is necessary for bookkeepers. I l 'L 'tx The ollicc practice class gains practical experience in the use ot modern business machines and business forms under Mr. Fauth's supervision. In Miss Lack's class the pupils acquire the iunda mentals ol typewritinq. SMITH BAND This year, 1949-50, brought us the Lewis- town High School New Band. In their bright new blue cmd white uniforms, the members of the band make a splendid appearance. They give a spectacular presentation of drills and of music under the capable direction of Mr. Richard Smith, a newcomer to Lewis- town this year. Playing all new marches. they display many formations on the football field at halftime. A good example is the locomotive in Down by the Station. The New Band is certainly a good repre- sentative of Lewistown High's half-century of progress as it boards our Iubilee Limited to add its melodic note to the rythmic beat of the locomotive. Two touchdowns by Bill Wag- ner, one by Kratzer, and two extra points by Olson gave the Panthers their margin of victory. BELLEFONTE 7- LEWISTOWN 0. L. H. Several times the Panthers threatened to push the pigskin across for a tally but failed to do so. it-li 'fl TK Q.- Q 1 LEWISTOWN 9 - TYRONE 0. For the first time since 1928, the Panthers won a hard- fought contest from a favored Golden Eagles team. A field goal by Jack Olson, a T.D. by Wagner, and brilliant defensive work by Paul Pacini were the deciding factors. LEWISTOWN 14-MT. UNION 0. The Pan- thers won their third game of the year in a hard-fought defensive battle with the Tro- jans. Both Wagner and Sanchez scored touchdowns and Olson kicked two extra points. LEWISTOWN 32-STATE COLLEGE 0. A stronger L. H. S. squad defeated a valiant. but out-classed, Little Lion eleven. DUBOIS 19-LEWISTOWN 13. An inspired Panther eleven fought the conference cham- pions to a standstill in the first half. Two T.D.'s by Wagner were the highlights of the game. Pacini received a head injury which side-lined him for the rest of the sea- son. BLOOMSBURG 21 - LEWISTOWN 14. A tricky T-formation enabled the visitors to edge the Panthers by one tally. Zimmerman. usually a defensive back, showed his ability on the offense by tearing off two touchdowns. LEWISTOWN Z6-DANVILLE 19. The Pan- thers capitalized on their breaks in a close contest with the Ironmen and bull-dozed their way to victory. Kratzer, Allen, and Wagner made touchdowns for L. H. S. CLEARFIELD 7-LEWISTOWN 6. A 96-yard sprint by Ike Zimmerman was not enough to edge a Clearfield eleven. LEWISTOWN 20-LOCK HAVEN 6. A Ban- non-to-Sanchez pass in the second quarter broke the ice for the Panthers as they rornped to a 20-6 victory over Lock Haven. LEWISTOWN 0--HUNTINGDON 0. Tense rivalry and brilliant football were evident throughout the hard-fought contest. L. H. Opening the season with an impressive S2-26 win over State College, the Lewistown Panthers went on to win all their pre-league games, a fact which gave Lewistown a 31-game winning streak over a period of two years. Then the Maroon and Steel Hoopsters lost their first Mountain League game to Mt. Union 21-23. The Panthers lost but four more games, one to each Mountain League team. The climax of the season was reached when the Panthers de- ieated a strong Tyrone team at Tyrone 50-40. With this win, the L.H.S. quintet ended the 1949-50 basketball season with a I7-5 record. Although Nook Weaver, Paul Pacini, Iay Cox, Ron Shearer, lack White, and Bub Allen will be lost through graduation, nevertheless, a grand nucleus ot Iuniors will be on hand to replace them.
