Within our treasure chest we find student council dances, class parties, and the Iunior Prom as tokens of our social events along with our football and basketball games, our wrestling and track meets, and our soccer and baseball games. In the more serious corner of our treas- ure chest we remember our studies and grades. Then, too, We can not forget our teachers. We must thank them for their kindness, their consideration, and their loyalty to us as students exploring the fields of higher education. Four happy years have come and gone, and, literally speaking, the class of l948 has emerged upon the cross- roads - the parting of our Ways. Parting, indeed, but there is a finer and broader sense in which the class of 1948 shall never be separated, but bound more firmly by cords which can not be severed as the years go by. During the years of our high school life a meshwork has been encircling us, entwining and intertwining each and every heart-cord securely. ln this meshwork, like a treasure chest filled with so many souvenirs, are hard work, pleasure, sorrow, friendship, joy, love, and even tears, all interwoven and shared alike. Around this meshwork and from these souvenirs is the Tie which shall withstand all the storms of time. Let this tie - our beloved Alma Mater - be an encourage- ment, not only to us, but to those who shall follow us, so to live in thought and deed that our lives may indeed be Cm honor to our beloved L. The Seniors were very prominent in all the sports and extra-curicular activities of the school ln our Sophomore year We had our memorable class party. Then in our Iunior year we had the Iunior Prom, which was enjoyed by Seniors and Iuniors alike and which will never be for- gotten in the hearts of the class oi '48. The members of the Senior Class played very important parts in the band and orchestra as well as in assembly programs. During our three years in Senior High We have been Well represented in football, basketball, soccer, wrestling, track, and baseball. During our Senior year a few selected members of our class acted as court attendants to Miss Agriculture of Pennsylvania. As the end of the year draws to an end, the class will close its pages of high school lite by placing in its memories, Commencement, Baccalaureate Service, and the never-to-be-forgotten Dinner Dance and class picnic. ff? T 0 5.1922 When entering the portals of Lewistown High School as Sophomores, we were highly confident of our abilities, and we wished to impress the Juniors and Seniors. After a few days, we found ourselves humbled, and we lost our haughty attitude. Vile found ourselves in new surroundings and realized that we would need the help of advisors and upper classmen. We held our first class meeting and elected Carl Barger, President: Nancy McClain, Vice President: Phyllis Carter, Secretary, William Heckert, Treasurer. We entered various school activities such as glee club, band, orchestra, student council, Tri-Hi-Y Clubs, and sports. The outstanding social event of the year was the Sophomore class party. This was very successful, and we were well accustomed and adjusted to high school activities by the end of this year. ln 1946 we returned to school as Iuniors.. By this time we had become better acquainted with members of the faculty and the students of other classes. We immediately held a class meeting and elected our officers as follows: President, Richard Rachau: Vice President, Constance Cleck, Secretary,-Nancy Burkett, Treasurer, Iohn Bowen. In October we ordered our class rings and pins. Following the selection of the class rings, we ordered our class hats and pennants. We waited anxiously for our rings and pennants to come. Eventually we received our rings and pennants, and we were rewarded by having them for the prom. Our goal was to make our prom one of the best in the history of L. H. S. During the second semester our prom committees were named and these committees worked with such a fine spirit of enthusiasm that we had one of the best proms in the history of this high school. Our last year in Lewistown High School we determined to make the happiest in our school career. We chose as our class officers: President, Clarence Gesselmang Vice President, Pat McLaughlin: Secretary, Nancy Mc- Clain: Treasurer, Myron Miller. The Lore Staff was selected which had as its Editor, Nancy Burkett: Assistant Editor, Mary lane Eshg Business Manager, lohn Bowen: Assistant Business Manager, Lee Snook: Charles Reich, Sports Editor. Our pictures were taken and our class looked forward with great expectation to the time when we would receive them. The big event of the year was the presentation of Sunny Skies, our class play. Now the time has come to bid adieu to the class of '48. Senior Day, Baccalaureate Services, Com- mencement, Dinner Dance, and the Class Picnic will soon be pleasant mem- ories. We Wish to thank Miss Park, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Reigle for their help when it was most needed. lt was through their advice and guidance that our class was so successful. We have learned many things in mis, our Ama Mater, which we shall carry with us forever. The class of '48 made many friends and secured a world of experience which it shall never forget. We hope we will continue to live just as successful in life as we have in dear old L. H. S. Pat G f'Gess DAVID L. The club has previously been under the direction oi Miss Mildred Wentz, but at the beqinninq of the school year Miss Wentz met with an accident and was unable to be with us. However, the girls were fortunate in havinq MISS MII-DRED WENTZ Mrs. Swyers to take over. Although we won only three of our nine games, we gave a very good account ot ourselves in all ot them. The hardest fought game of the season was when we met our traditional rival, Huntingdon. Although the score ended in a tie, we felt that it was a moral victory since we haven't tied or beaten them in over thirty years. We like to give much credit to our coaches who spent many long hours coaching and drilling our team and extend our best Wishes to next year's team. Doug Niemond Bowersox Curry Eby ! , . ,.,. BASKETBALL Two heart-breaking losses to Mount Union, one an affair that saw the Panthers score 13 points in the closing three minutes, cost the Panthers the Mountain League title. But they overpowered the rest of their league opponents to clinch the runner-up position. The Panthers started the season with an overtime vic- tory over Selinsgrove, then gained momentum that reached its peak with a Z-point conquest ot Iersey Shore, a rangy team, that led the Central League most ot the season. Some other highlights saw the Panthers overcome State College and Belletonte on the latter's home court, after they had beaten the local quintet in our gym by con- vincing scores. Perhaps the most important win ot the season was the first Lewistown triumph over Huntingdon tor the past three years. The season ended with 13 wins and 8 losses. The Utema coached squad consisted almost entirely of luniors with Ed Stuck and Charley Reich being the only seniors to make the squad. Since most ot this year's squad will return next year, we, the Class ot 48 , hope that the Class of 49 has a top season and the best ot luck. BOB NEIMAN Dec Dec Dec. Dec Dec Ian. Ian. Ian. Ian.
