WILLIAM W. TAYLUH In 1912, a familiar figure around the school was john L. Dunn, vice principal and head of the Mathematics department. A small, plump, hald gentleman with glasses, he was sometimes called ajerryv hy the boys, a name he greatly disliked. William VV. Taylor, our present vice principal, has held this position for 10 years. He has acquired some gray hair from making and changing programs, and worrying over the conduct of certain boys, but nevertheless through all of this has kept his genial disposition. MISS BEHNAUINE MCIILINEY Forty years ago, there was no counterpart to Miss Bernadine M cC lincy, our girls, adviser, according to the records. Why, we can only guess. Perhaps the two hundred and some girls were so well behaved, they did not need an adviser. Miss M cClincy returned this year, after a year,s leave of ahsence, during which she attended Columhia university, where she received her Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Personnel Administration. ARRAHAM LINCOLN PARKER Today-forty year.s after the building was compieted-there sits in the principalis chair, Abra- ham Lincoln Parker. Appointed vice principal by Henry M. Hart in 1928, Mr. Parker became prin- cipal on july I, 1942. The building has been al- tered considerably since it was first occupied in 1912. One of the largest organs in the area was installed in the auditorium in 1923. It is a four- manual Austin instrument with the pipes arranged on both sides . of the Stage. ABRAHAM LINCOLN PARKER In the fall of 1947 the audi- torium was reconstructed and now resembles the most modern theater in design. The stage area was enlarged and the lighting modernized. Ticket booths were built in front and a public addres.s system installed. The boys, gym, after a minor fire in 1932, was remodeled and a better gallery was built without the running track. Later the wornout metal lockers were replaced with new wire baskets and a large fan was installed to circulate the air and improve .sanitary conditions. During the .spring of 1949, a new fluorescent lighting sy.stem was installed throughout the building. The lights consist of long tubes extending from the front to the rear of the rooms and are covered with perforated metal grills which resemble Kegg cratesf, In 1950 a modern darkroom was built adjacent to room 330 for use by the pho- tography classes. The main room is used for developing pictures and the two smaller rooms for loading cameras. Masonite cabinets and a double shelf encircling the main room were installed. In 1949-59, the Home Economics department was completely remodeled. The 1ate.st equipment was installed in the kitchen and the dining room was redecorated and furnished with the latest styles. 1n the spring of 1951, new trophy cases were built on each side of the auditorium. The new glassed-in cases are of modern design. The Industrial Arts department was the last place where improvements were made. In 1951 the partition between two rooms was removed and the new room completely revamped. Pa ge seven
