Putting their best f?l foot forward a r e the newly initiated members of the Quill and Scroll: back r o w, D e w a yn e Franklin, pickaninnyg Earline Leath, foun- tain peng Hillry Ranson, golf bag, Tommy Derington, majorette. Front row, Logan Gill, boll wee- vilg Gail Grimes, typewriter, and Mary Jo Minor, tube of lipstick. Arriving late but in time for the main part of the initiation were be-bop record Betty Mont- gomery and mail box Diane G r e e n. The costumes worn by the new membe r s were only a pa rt of the shocking experi- ence they participated in. Feeling the results of the doctor's needle was MaryJ'o Minor when she seated herself in the chair and received the point of the whole game. F I Tommy Derington, art edi- tor of the El Lobo, and Mary Io Minor, r e po rte r, for the Lobo Lair, are counting the votes for the favorite contest. This contestis annually spon- sored by the journalism class. Hillry Ranson is doing a mean take-off depicting an ace-reporter du r ing an as- sembly program. Looking on is B e s s ie Allen, imperson- ating Mrs. Williams, journal- ism instructor. Ending his first year as El Lobo editor was junior, Lawayne Rawls. Here he is seen working on the page layout of the 1955 El Lobo. Besides being editor of the El Lobo, Lawayne is also a member of the staff of the Lobo Lair and is vice-president ofthe Quill and Scroll. Last year Lawayne wa s trouble-shooter, picture paster, and sports editor of the El Lobo,

Gail Grimes, Earline Leath, Mary Io Minor, and Betty Mont- gomery played their part as re- porters onthe Lobo Lair staff. Diane Green won a third place in state competition with a news story. Joan Durrett Bowen added another title to her name this year that of editor of the Lobo Lair as well as a married name Puttinv out 15 issues ofthe paper is no minor chore Joan also represented the Journalism department in the regional meet held in Lubbock April 23 for her second year 'L 1

8 vfffll , ll Officers for the Photography Club are Spencer Ellis, presi- dent, and Ioan Bowen, secretary. The purpose of the club is to in- terest students in photography. Mrs. Williams also sponsors this organization. This photo is the all-around winner of the contest sponsored by the Photography Club. The picture was submitted by La- wayne Rawls, and was taken in St. Paul, Minnesota, where the stu- dent council officers visited the National Convention of S t u d e n t Councils. Exchange editor Diane Green and business manager Starlie Pace pause for a rninute in their usualbusy day ofwork in journalism. Diane won third place in state competition of Texas High School Press Association for the news story division. Starlie managed all the books for the two publications, and wrote some pretty good stories for the Lobo Lair on the side.
