, Official United Sta-tes Navy Photograph Throughoutfthe Korean Campaign, MASON served with distinction. She parti- cipated in the seige of Wonsan, the Taiwan Defense Patrol, Task Force 77 operations off Korea, and in many special missions for bombardment and recon- naissance. With similar distinction and results, MASON has taken part in the Vietnam struggle. Altogether, MASON has made twelve tours in the Far East, five of these in war conditions. As a result of her service, the MASON was awarded the Navy Oc- cupation Service Medal on three occasions, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

b. . IN COMMAND Commander John K. McConeghy, USN, assumed command of the U.S.S. Leonard F. Mason CDD 8525 on the 27th of April, 1967. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned Ensign in 1948. Directly preceding his assignment to the MASON, he served as the Executive Officer of the U.S.S. Estes CAGC 125. His previous sea duty consists of tours on the following ships: U.S.S. Letye CCV 325, U.S.S. Bausell CDD 8455, U.S.S. Scabbard Fish CSS 3975, U.S.S. Greenfish CSS 3515, U.S.S. Catfish CSS 3395, and U.S.S. Diodon CSS 3495. He was also the Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. Segundo CSS 3895. Cdr. McConeghy is married to the former Miss Jean M. Eggert of Dixon, Cali- fornia. They have two children, Patrick and Jo Ellen.
