Cousins Your three years at Leominster High School have been different and difficult to say the least. Unfortunately, you have never experienced a normal school situation. Through all the problems of space that have plagued us, your class has maintained a desire for excellence in all areas. May this determination to do your best be your guiding goal throughout your life. My sin- cere wishes for the future and may God bless you all. Superintendent Joseph Carol The late Robert F. Kennedy said, ''The future does not belong to those who are content with today, apathetic toward common problems and their fellow men alike, timid and fearful in the face of new ideas and bold projects. Rather it will belong to those who can blend vision, reason, and courage in a personal commitment to the ideals and great enterprises of American society. To create the type of future we all desire will require great social and individual changes. You, the young people of today, will be the chief agents in this continy- ing task. I hope that your experiences at Leominster High School have helped to develop in you the desire, willing- ness, and ability to accept the rigorous discipline neces- sary to affect these changes. My best wishes to all of you for a happy and rewarding future. Vice-Principal John F. Joyce What can young people be thinking of nowadays? They care about nothing! They're surely on the highroad to disaster! In the eyes of their elders, each younger generation has been on that road since the dawn of civilization. How soon the older generation forgets the bafflement, frustration, pain, excite- ment, joy, and glory of being young! Having seen many a high-school generation through its school years, I can offer this unsentimental assessment of the Class of 1975: Considering the erosion of authority, permissiveness, distractions, and uncertainties of the times and their pressures on you, most of you have retained your decency, balance, integrity, values, and affirmation of life, andI salute you for it. On behalf of the senior class we dedicate this poem to you: I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me. ; I'd like to be the help that you are always glad to be. I'd like to mean as much to you each minute of the day, As you have, good friend of mine, to me along the way. And this is just to wish somehow that I could but repay A portion of the gladness that you've strewn along my way. For could I have one wish today, this only would it be, I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me! Mrs. Eleanor L'Ecuyer, Mr. John Arroyo THANK YOU!! from the class of '75. 42 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Karen Cannavino (secretary), Thomas Caporello (president), Lisa James (vice-president), Joyce Gorgoglione (treasurer) STUDENT COUNCIL | Denise Wooldridge, Cathy Cornacchia, Monica Shannon, Joyce Friedman Mark Albert Lawrence Altobelli David Anderson John Angelini Lisa Angelini Robert Antocci Patricia Arel David Arsenault Elizabeth Arsenault 44 Edward Ayoub David Baldini Eugene Aube Brian Baker MaryLou Barron Daniel Aubuchon Linda Auger 45 Denise Belanger MaryAnn Belan ger Deborah Beaudette James Bartimo f 3 sR TERE ee Johanne Benoit Rachel Belanger Charles Bergeron Bruce Bergeron Karen Bisson Donna Bissonette Jane Bizzari Robert Blanchette Stephen Blanchette James Botts Susan Boudreau Frank Bovenzi 47 Lisa Brideau Tracey Buckley Kathleen Burke David Butler Sandra Caisse Mark Caissey Michael Caissie Lynn Caligaris 48 sii RRRRES OES ‘ Thomas Caporello Jeffrey Carbone Maria Carboni Ann Carchidi 49 Deborah Carriere Debra Carter James Carter Gail Casacca Marianne Chalifoux Joan Charette David Chester 50 Debora Chisolm roe, EA temeearecne= SOHO © i eS Edwin Colon Cindy Contois Paul Cormier Susan Cormier 51 Catherine Cornacchia Michael Cornacchia Karen Corzine Andre Cote Mark Crawford Michael Crawford John Cronin Yvonne Crouch 52 Colleen Cuddahy Thomas Curran John Daigneault Deborah Dailey 53 f ae ter Fi Seereed ALY Gail DeBettencourt Debra DePaolo Michael Desilets Michelle Desmarais Loreto DiBattista Mary DiCesare Michael DiGeronimo Thomas DiGeronimo 54 Patricia DiMarzio Bennie DiNardo Gary Dionne Diane DiPerri Karen DiRusso Lynne Divis 55 Arlene Doucette Mary Doran Doherty trie C2 Margaret Dockery John Duffy David Duffy Cynthia Driscoll Joanne Doucet Patricia Egan Lisa Emery Michael Dumont Karen Dufresne 56 j é , ¥ q Deidre Farquhar Susan Farrell Rachel Faulkenham Anna Fiffy Norma Farrow John Fenno Barbara Fiffy 57 Bennett Fini Heidi Fischer Mary Flanagan Mark Fontaine Richard Freda Barbara Fredrickson + rm ; Tt Xt ASOPPTLL. 4 a LAF Joyce Friedman Nancy Furlong Richard Gallant Diane Gamache 58 Paul Gardephe Guy Gauvin Ruth Gendron Douglas Girouard Jane Girouard Richard Girouard Se, Joyce Gorgoglione Marcia Gove Ann Gradito Ann Graham Hollis Graham Marcia Graves Anne Guenette James Gulliver Gail Hagwood 60 Stephen Hamel Darlene Hanks Peter Hazel Cheryl Harvie Colleen Hannigan l@abdaatl John Hodson 61 Richard Hebert Kim Holman Robin Infantino Alan Jackson Lisa James Steven Jenkins 62 Candi Jones James Joyal Jeffrey Karsh James Keaney Patricia Kearney Kelly Keaveny Mary Kelly 63 Reid Kimball Gary Kline Thomas Kline Deborah Koski Lie e 4, PM! 2B y Patricia LaCross Sarahne Lagoy Darlene Landry Steven Landry 64 ) NG ye Steven Landry Michael LaPalme Lisa LaPlume Deborah LeBlanc Joanne LeBlanc Marcella L'Ecuyer 65 Elizabeth Lefebvre Richard L'Ecuyer Ronald Legere Jan Legere John Lemoine Barbara Lelli Julie Lemieux Betty Lehtinen Patricia Lindsey Catherine Lizotte Emest Logue Diane Lucier Pamela Lussier CS ee ! A.A. 20th Anniversary The Girls' Athletic Association of Leominster High School was organized in September of 1956. Our aims were, and still are, to promote participation in girls’ athletics, recrea- tion, and social events, and to stimulate the ideals of sportsmanship and friendship. We have grown much inthe past years. Our program calendar is full and varied. The Spring Social, at which we honor the mothers, and fun Father-Daughter Night, and our Annual Banquet are the highlights of the year. We are extremely proud that G. A. A. was cited as the outstanding club of Leominster High School by the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and that in the past years we have awarded over $3500. 00 in scholarships. Twenty years have passed, and we know that with such interest and enthusiasm shown by the girls, our G. A.A. will continue to grow and remain a valuable part of high school life. Outstanding perfor- mances were turned in by Andy Proos, fin- ishing seventh in the Wachusett Invitational, and Dave Craigue, who ran first for Leo- minster in the Nashoba meet. This marked only the second time that a L.H.S. soccer team has completed an undefeated, untiedsea- son. This impressive record enabled the Blue Devil booters to goon and particpate in the state soccer tournament, ceded third in Western Mass. To the disappointment of many, the Devils dropped a 2-0 decision to Minnechoug Regional of Wilbraham, This wrapped up the most productive three years in the history of L.H.S. soccer. The class of '75 booters compiled a regular season record of 41 wins 1 loss, and 3 ties. The L.H.S. soccer team was comprised of many standout play- ers with the absence of a real standout individual. Captains Dick Freda and Frank Bovenzi were the leading scorers with 18 and 17 goals respectively. Each player contributed 12 assists. Other leading scorers were junior inside Mario Bisol with 11 goals and 11 assists and right wing Mike Gasbarro with 11 goals and 15 assists. Mario Bisol and Frank Bovenzi were consistently prolific from their inside positions, dominating their opponents time andtime again. Offensively, Dick Freda and Mike Gasbarro kept op- ponents off guard with bullet-like shots from their respective wings. Defensively at fullbacks the acrobatic Jim Carter and junior Ted Rockwell consistently shined. Their hard-nose play often made offensive penetration by the opposing team nearly impossible. Mike DiGeronimo and junior Ken Tourigny were also standouts with their consistent play at fullback but were than not over shadowed. At the halfback slots were brothers Larry and Dave Altobelli. They never really received the re- cognition they deserved but were extraordinary with their steady play all season long. Backboning the defensive unit at center halfback or where ever needed was Jay Conners. Jay consis- tently stood out on defense with gutsy performances regardless of whether positioned at fullback or halfback. Other defensive players who ably assisted when called upon were John Mul- laney, Dave Chester, and Jim Rudnicky. Overall, this out- standing defensive until accounted for 20 shutouts over the past two seasons. Nine were recorded this past year and11 the pre- ceding year. One reason for this was the brilliant goaltending of tri-captain Dave Kielty who was in net the last two seasons. Other senior members of the1974 team were John Caisse, John Piazza, Tom DiGeronimo, Frank Maldrai, and Ted Ktistakis. Jim Carter, Frank Bovenzi, Dick Freda, Dave Kielty, and Ted Rockwell were Central Mass. All Stars. Dave Kielty and Dick Freda were named to the All State Team. Overall, it was a very successful season for the Blue Devil Booters, but disppointing in the end. The Blue Devils received excellent support all season long from students and faculty. Thanks go to cheerleading captain Jane Tellier and the whole cheering squad for their loyal support. Also special thanks must go to the S.L.C.'s, who travled each and every step with the L.H.S. soccer team. din 2 es J.V. This goal was an unde- feated and untied season. © Led by the brilliant play of co-captain Rick L'Ecuyer who scored 16 touchdowns, the team played what many long- time L.H.S. fans considered to be the toughest schedule ever. Never the less, the Blue Devils emerged victorious in every game. Included among the victims were the 1973 New Hampshire champions. Manchester Memorial, and the 1973 Eastern Massachusetts titlist, Brockton High School. Arch rival Fitchburg fell to the Blue Devils by a score of 36- 13, while the highlight of the season had to be the 13-7 overtime victory over previously undefeated Chicopee High School in the Central Western Massachusetts play-off game at Springfield College. The team was made up of an explosive offense that aver- aged over 30 points a game and a rock ribbed defense that allowed opponents less than 10 points a game. Offensive standouts included backs Rick L'Ecuyer, Sandro Vittorioso, Steve Ringer, and Paul Robichaud, Also line- man Ben Fini, Charlie Kirouac, John Fenno and Mark Falk played an important part in this outstanding season, Stand- ‘outs on the defensive unit were Dave Malatos, and John An- gelini as linebackers, Charlie Kirouac, Mike Pignata, Dave Arsneault, and John Crawley. The girls’ swim team had their first winning season with a 6-5 record against many strong Boston area teams. The highlight of the season was a final relay victory over Seekonk to give us a 42-38 dual meet win, a first against Seekonk. Team Captains Tracey Buckley and Cherie Tho- mas were strong competitors all season. They were backed by seniors Joyce Gorgoglione, Julie Leieux, Karen Cannavino and diver Karen Cor- znie. The 1974-1975 season of the Leominster High School hockey team was one of the best, to say the least, rivaling the 1972-1973 season, when the team was 17-3-2. At this writing, this year's team is sporting a 15-1-0 record overall and a 13-1-0 record in league play. The only loss came in the fifteenth game at the hands of arch-rival Fitchburg High. Offense was this year's strong point, as the team will surpass the 100 goal mark for twenty games. Defense was by no means weak. The Blue Devils gave up, on the average, less than two goals a game. This was the first year that the L.H.S. hockey team was able to put together so much depth, utlizing 3 full five-man units while still having two or three reliable subs onthe bench. The team was captained by seniors Dave Malatos and Marc Albert. Every member of the team did an ex- cellent job. The girls had a losing season, with a 5-10 record, but they played tremendous bas- ketball against the District 111 leaders. We lost to undefeated Wachusett Regional on our home court 42-47; we almost outlasted unde- feated Worcester North 49-57, and arch-rival Fitchburg won in the final minutes, 62-70. Due to double sessions, the girls practiced in half of the gym at odd hours, had constantly moving cheering sections, 8 a.m. Saturday musicals, and went through early season tor- ture using the halls, stairs, mats, ceilings, and walls to get in shape. Co-captains Tracey Buckley and Mary Flanagan kept the team moving in every game with the help of high point scoring senior Deb Carriere. The girls’ junior varsity basketball team had a good season with a 9-6 record including an overtime victory against St. Bernard's, win- ning by one basket. There were many strong individual performances through- out the season. The team was led by tri-captains Jim Mc- Laughlin, Andy Proos, and Greg Corchidi, Gregg got hurt early in the season but was a strong performer up to that time. Six records were broken this year. Jim McLaughlin, the high point scorer for the team, set a new record for the 45 yard hurdles with a time of 6.0 seconds. Sophomore Bob Frechette, the second highest point scorer, set a new record in the 300 yard dash with a time of 34.0 seconds. Andy Proos, the third highest point scorer, set a new record in the mile with a time of 4:49. Other records were set by Fran Thomas in the 600 with a time of 1:21,2, and the relay team made up of Bob Mcguire, Fran Thomas, Arty Thomas, and Bob Frechette set a record with a time of 2:13.8. Bob Frechette also took the 45 yard dash record with a tmie of 5.2 seconds. Other strong performances were turned in by 1000 men Charlie Ciccone and Rick Wilder, shot putters Rick Horgan, Dave King, and Jay Burke, high jumpers Greg Kozlowski and Jim Bartimo, 600 man Dave Kietly, miler Dave Craigue, and springers Billy Allen, Jim Carter, and Jim Rudnicky.
