DIRECTOR OF TRADE EMILE $. JOHNSON Congratulations! You have spent the past few years in preparation for your fu- ture work. Many of you have done outstanding work in both the Shop and Academic classroom. May you continue to work diligently as you start to work in your chosen field. Many op- portunities will be available to you in the industries. Take ad- vantage of these opportunities, be diligent and honest in your work and you will advance rapidly. Best Wishes. Emile S. Johnson Director VICE-PRINCIPAL JOHN F. JOYCE Commencement is the time for high anticipation and for ret- rospective assessment. With you the Class of 1971 | share the hope and confidence that | have observed among you. For, contrary to the prevalent attitude of nihilism among an overpublicized minority of youth, there will be a future, not easy and elysian, but uncertain and demanding. Of this most of you seem to be aware. Most of you seem willing and eager to face this future without fear and without resorting to the escapism prevailing among some of your gen- eration. Looking back over the past three years, | am grateful to you for the many fine attributes you brought to this school to ani- mate your life within it. | have admired your spirit of independ- ence, your balance, your courage to dissent honestly, construc- tively, and democratically, your enthusiasm, your affirmative, realistic and confident outlook, and your retention, without blind conformity, of the basic values in a world presently uncer- tain of its values. | am grateful for the privilege of a friendship with such as you, and you may be sure that my fondest and best wishes at- tend you always wherever you may go and whatever you may do.
