THE MAGNET 1970 Volume Sixty-Six Leominster High School Leominster, Massachusetts Advisors Mrs. Deborah Damon Mrs. Giovanna Moynihan Co-Editors Arthur DiGeronimo Deborah Yule Business Managers John Bernard Patricia Mann ONCE YOU WE — FOREWORD — upon a time ... or maybe twice .. . there was a paradise called Leominster. Here, stood an institution called Leominster High School. The principal, natural resources of L.H.S. were—and still are—knowledge ... laughter .. .fun . . . and people. will not find L.H.S. by looking for it. It's a place that must be ex- perienced. Should you hear the pleasing strains of dedicated teachers, curious students, and occasional shouts of laughter, then you can assume you are approaching the neighborhood of Esrabee the class of 1970, the 100th graduating class of L.H.S., have ex- ° perienced this paradise for the past three years of our lives. Now, about to embark on a new life, we sadly, but triumphantly, chart our last voyage through L.H.S. in our yellow submarine (which occasionally happens to change colors). Led by our captains (class officers), we will observe the many seas of L.H.S. for the last time, through the portholes of our faithtul submarine. ... All full ahead! I'd like to do the big things and the splendid things for you, To brush the gray from out your skies an d leave them only blue; I'd like to say the kindly things that | so oft have heard, And feel that | could rouse your soul the way that mine you've stirred. It there are two people to whom the class of 1970 will forever be indebted, they are Miss Pauline Ciccone and Mr. Paul Benoit, our class ad- visors. Whenever we, the class as a whole, or any per- son needed advice or aid, an attentive ear or helping hand could be found with either of these two people. Through- out our three years at L.H.S., Miss Ciccone and Mr. Benoit have become more than just teachers and class advisors —they have become trusted friends. With fondest memo- ries of the times we have all shared, we the class of 1970, the one hundredth graduating class at L.H.S., dedicate this yearbook to them in appreciation for everything that they have done for us. te . = + atte % we 4 ae ¥ — The essence of friendship is entireness, a total magnanimity and trust. —Emerson PRINCIPAL — ALDRICH V. COUSINS pS] y @ ai V. COUSINS ae — os oper 1969-1970 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE One hundred years ago five proud young women became the first graduating class of Leominster High School. Through the years countless numbers have followed that same path in quest of knowledge. The school location has changed several times. The curriculum has changed to meet the demands of the times. The number graduating each year has continued to grow. One thing does not change and that is our responsibility, our sincere desire to see that you are adequately prepared to face the next challenge after high school. The greatest advances known to man since the beginning of time have been achieved in all areas during the last one hundred years. As your school enters its second century let us hope that we have learned our past lessons well so that we can proceed with wisdom and tolerance. To the members of the class of 1970, the century class, my congratulations and best wishes. VICE PRINCIPAL — JOHN F. JOYCE It is with particular respect and affection that | salute the Class of 1970, the !00th class to be graduated from Leominster High School and the worthy representative of the significant milestone in a long tradition. Two years ago when | was serving as Acting Principal, | learned to respect your integrity, your maturity, your reasoned convictions, and your loyal- ty. You helped so much to make my tenure in the front office a rewarding and happy experience that | am everlastingly gratetul. During your junior and senior years | have ad- mired in you that normal youthtul disclination to conform blindly and passively to tradition, and | have applauded the offsetting dynamic tendency you have had toward constructive change and im- provement based on solid values. Your thinking, your activity have been positive, rooted in good common sense, and appropriately unconventional. Keep on asking questions, helping to find answers, issuing the challenges, generating that enthusiasm that is so characteristic of your Class and your generation. My fondest wishes attend you always wherever the myriad paths of life may lead you. DIRECTOR OF TRADE — EMILE JOHNSON Congratulations: You have spent four busy years here at the Trade High School pursuing your chosen career. Many of you have performed on the highest level. Some have not worked as hard and as diligently as you could have. | sincerely hope that each one of you will ‘'roll up your sleeves'' and give of your best. Industry is looking for energetic young men to advance in this highly techni- cal age in which we are living. Give an honest hour's work so that you may reflect your training to your superiors. Already we have worked on our own. It was just a trial run—like a wooden boat with paper sails ferrying on a tiny stream. But we discovered many things on our own as well as in Mrs. Gottsegen's room. She trained us there, and then set us on a course where we could gain valuable practical experience. 30 . .this class brought home many awards in D.E. competition.
