.. MISS LILLIAN RICKER Miss Ricker has meant so much to us, the class of ’69, as a counselor, a respected adult, and a beloved friend. She has been a staff member at L.H.S. for over 30 years, motivating stu- dents and making them conscious of their own worth. It is a characteristic of the person that she teaches by example rather than by words, teaches pupils rather than subjects, and inspires rather than drives. The concern and interest she shows for the students has made her dean of girls and counselor to the boys as well. Never anticipating recognition, she has unselfishly given of herself, her time, and effort. We feel that she has achieved the ultimate success in life by making others successful.

DEDICATION . . . “Count your garden by the flowers, Never by the leaves that fall, Count your days by golden hours, Don’t remember clouds at all. Count your nights by stars, not shadows, Count your life by smiles, not tears, And with joy on every morning Count your age by friends, not years.” Author Unknown

Assistant Principal John F. Joyce As you reach the end of your secondary school years, it may come to you as a startling disclosure and revelation that you have been in effect your own greatest teachers. Like your good parents who have deputized responsibility to them for several hours each day during the past three years, the members of the faculty here have been person ally as well as professionally concerned not just with imparting, but also with shaping and guid- ing—not merely the pouring-in, but, more important, with the leading forth, which is the root meaning in now vanishing Latin of the word “‘‘education.” But if your teachers have pointed out the way—which, as you now know, is never straight and easy—the lessons you have learned, the outlooks you have discerned, the appropriate independence of thinking you are developing, and the values you have acquired and affirmed, have been in the final analysis self-taught. So it is now, and so it will always be throughout your lives. Together we have laid the foundation and erected the framework of the structure. How you complete, adorn, and furnish it will be in accordance with this unending process of self-teaching. My happy association with the Class of 1969 convinces me that individually and as a group you have already learned much of lasting worth besides what was contained in the textbooks. You have already effected a fine balance of idealism with realism. I have few doubts or misgivings about the life and the future that you will make for yourselves and your world. Remember too that graduation is neither a terminal nor a parting. You are and always will be a member of the Leominster High School family, and wherever you go and whatever you do, our loyal and familial pride in you and our affectionate good wishes for you will attend you always. John F. Joyce Assistant Principal Principal Emile S. Johnson Congratulations: You have received from your teachers and school the basics that are necessary to enter industry and the Industrial World. May you continue to work diligently giving an honest hour for a fair wage. Industry is looking for eager and willing young men who desire to learn and advance themselves in an ever changing technological society. May you continue to study in your chosen work so that you may advance and your achievement will bring credit to your School, City, State and Country and your God. Best wishes and Godspeed in your life’s work. Emile S. Johnson Principal
