Principal Emile §. Johnson Congratulations! May you continue to work diligently in the vocation you have chosen. Remember what Benjamin Franklin said—’‘He who hath a trade hath an estate.” Industry is looking for young, energetic and willing workers who will give an hour’s labor for an hour's honest wages. May you uphold the standards that have been set before you. Good luck. Assistant Principal John F. Joyce Because we in education like and work in happy prox- imity to your generation, we are presumed to be authori- ties on your actions and reactions, your opinions and out- looks, your convictions and beliefs, your manners and mores, your aspirations and dreams—in short, we are expected to be thoroughly and conscientiously informed about you and your world. So when your elders ask such questions as “What are young people really like nowadays?” or, more often, “What is wrong with the present younger generation?” my answer must be: “From the privilege of being oc- cassionally allowed insight into their world, | have to say that nothing is wrong with them. They are no worse than we were at the corresponding age. They are, in fact, better. They are far more mature and balanced; they have more solid values. Therefore, let us stop focusing on the minority fringe of social deviates and appreciate the true worth of the ninety-nine per cent whose decen- cies and virtues never make the headlines.” | salute the good class of 1968 as typical of this ninety- nine per cent. | congratulate you on the wealth of your accomplishment up to this time. | am grateful for the promise of your future. | thank you for the inspiration you have afforded my calling during the past three years. | look forward with eager and confident expectation to the world you will make for us. May our paths cross again and often. » ‘| | i | i 1] : { ‘ i

Principal Charles D. Bird At this particular time in our society many paramount issues are being analyzed and debated. Deeply seated traditions, social mores, protocol and institutions have been and will be revised as a result. You are in the midst of an age where pursuit of the truth plays a grow- ing role. In America, where the pioneer spirit is evidenced with pride, this inquisition is a compliment to the active mind. With this transpiring about us the great emphasis falls upon prudent judgment preferably unscarred by impetuousness, ignorance, immaturity, or other phenome- non unbecoming quality in the decision making process. In the maze of information some biased by incompetency, vested interests, and personal prejudice, it becomes in- creasingly difficult to sort out the facts so necessary in forming an intelligent opinion. The information gathering process is an important one. You, over the past years, have been presented with the method and resources to establish and implement an effective personal program of this type. Be watchful of false or misleading informa- tion, but be appreciative of reliable and valid facts and logic. You will be contributors to the future. Make your mark a positive and truthful one that will stand the test of time.
