The road before, by no means smooth, had been filled with detours and dead-ends, but the juniors blazed their own trail and emerged seasoned travelers. What had been learned in previous years served as guide maps and the third-year itine- rary included stops at plane geometry. physics. United States history, and English Ill. ln the fall the juniors selected their passports to future success, the eagerly awaited class rings, this year a square blue stone crested with an LH and mounted in a gold setting engraved with bearcats. To the juniors at least the rings symbolized a wearisome jour- ney through the eleven years of school. Under the watchful eye of Mrs. Tri- vette. the concession stand was operat- ed in the football season in order to prepare for the social climax of the year, a bon-voyage party for the upper classmen-the Iunior-Senior. The emblem, a keystone and torch, symbolizes the light of education and the importance of the cardinal points in every life. During the monthly meetings, the Honor Society, with the help of the sponsor, Mrs. Gertrude Whitehead, plans and exe- cutes various projects designed to benefit the school, community, and individuals. The most important project of the year is raising money for a scholarship given to a deserving senior. Guiding the student body on to the best year yet are the Stu- dent Council officers: Miss Angley. adviser: Rebecca McDonald. secretary: Robert Sherrill. president: Sandra Davidson. vice president: and Glenwood VVilson. treasurer. The Student Council is the hub around which most of our school activities rotate. This organization, under the guidance of Miss Angley, works behind the scenes to make the school program enjoyable and at the same time beneficial for building character and training minds. Our council operates the canteen as one source of income. The earnings are used for the dances, home- coming, and many other activities which it sponsors. This year the honor board and suggestion box have been added to its list of services to the school. The student body can be justly proud of the accomplishments of the fifty-six members of the Student ! X Council. -V . A Xff Zi ff l Hg 41 Helping plan the '56 journey are. first row. loc Isaac.
