VALEDICTCDRIAN MARY ELLEN BULLOCK The Valedictorian is the top student of the senior class. The grades on which this honor is based are those through high school and includ- ing the third quarter of the senior year. The Valedictorian is responsible for a speech at graduation as the representative of the class. This year the Valedictorian is Mary Ellen Bullock. Mary Ellen was born in Los Angeles, Cali- fornia on July 24, 1941, and attended jefferson and Felton Elementary Schools and Inglewood and Lennox High Schools. After she graduates from Lennox she plans to attend the University of California at Los Angeles. Mary Ellen has won numerous contests in Speech, Math, and Science. She has been active in school affairs both as Speaker of the House of Representatives her Senior Year, as ex officio member of the Senate in her junior and Senior Years as Annual Editor and Math Club Presi- dent. She has belonged to the California Scholar- ship Federation each semester of her high school career, and has also been elected to the Spanish National Honor Society and the Sentinel Service Club, both at Inglewood High School. Her ac- tivities at school have been paralleled by those in the service of her church, and her personal charm has lighted many an otherwise dull situ- ation. We are happy to be represented by such an outstanding person. SALUT TORIAN The Salutatorian ranks second in the senior class and gives a welcoming address to the Class at the Graduation exercises. In these two ollices the school recognizes outstanding achievement in scholarship, which is, after all, one of the primary goals of a school. This year the Saluta- torian is Rosemary Burgua. Rosemary was born in Los Angeles, Cali- fornia on November 3, 1941. She attended Jeffer- son and Felton Elementary Schools and Ingle- wood and Lennox High Schools. She plans to attend the University of California at Berkeley, where she will major in Elementary Educa- tion in preparation for a teaching career. Rosemary has been a yell leader on both the G.A.A. and school squadsg a life member of C.F.S., being elected president during her junior year: and a member of her class cabinet both years at Lennox. During her senior year, she took an active part in the Math Club as well. Rosie is looking forward to serving her church in Italy this summer where she will work hard in a youth camp for six weeks and then tour with the group through Europe during the remainder of her stay. We wish her success in her first venture into Education and know that she will profit by the experience. Any group with which Rosie associates will be enriched by her knowledge, forethought, and organiza- tional ability, and we would like at this time to thank her for her contribution to our school. ...- ROSEMARY BURGUA 33

It all began in the fall of 1957, We came from Morningside, Inglewood, Hawthorne, and Leuzinger High Schools, neighboring schools in our district, to make up the class of '59. Our first job was to elect class officers. After much campaigning we elected Ken Kennedy President, Lynn Silvers Vice-President, and Shirley Johnson Secretary-Treasurer. Our advisors were Mrs. Di Masi, Mr. Hauser, and Mr. Killian. We then chose our senior rings, and our jackets and sweaters, the emblem for which was designed by Bob Meek. The colors chosen were beige and cocoa brown. The main high-light, and the most memorable event in our junior year at Lennox High School, was the junior Prom, Star Dust. It was held in the school auditorium, and the entertainment was fur- nished by the Hi-Lo Dance Band. The climax of the evening, as agreed by all who attended, was the crowning of our queen and princesses by our second semester president, Steve Vida. Our queen was Miss Pat Graf, and her lovely court consisted of Lynn Silvers, Jo Ann Prevatte, Sandy Wolfff, and Charlotte Sumrall. At the end of our junior year we elected Bob Meek, President, Charlene Wilson Vice-President, and Jo Ann Prevatte Secretary- Treasurer, to guide our class through our Senior Year. Other events which were important to our class included choosing of our graduation announcements, arranging for our caps and gowns, and having our senior portraits taken. In order to raise money for the Senior Prom we sponsored a senior car wash, and a wet time was had by all, as well as a Christmas dance under the theme of Winter Wonderland, where music was fur- nished by the school dance band. As this goes to press we are looking forward to the Senior Prom, 'Moments to Remember, which will be held in the Cadoro Room of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, january 30. We will graduate on june 19, and our graduation dance will be held at the Hollywood Palladium. But these events will be guided by other hands: Steve Vida, President, Jo Ann George, Vice-Presi- dent, and Carol Vanderlip, Secretary-Treasurer. .5 59 'Sq v K5 159 .Sq ' 53 'sa . 2 .,..
