he , , ' ett1CV11lal FAMILY RESTAURANT Q PIZZERIA C0 GR TULATES LE APE HIGH CLASS OF '87 H, fag: 0 l hi Place eally Delivers' by Albert H. Papp The Spaghetti Villa Rte. 130 84 Chestnut Hill Qinnaminson 786-8068 Here we go again, another one of those don't let-the name-fool-you type of places. Restaurants can sure make rt hard on reviewers sometimes, and restaurant go- ers, too. Case rn point: The Spaghetti Villa. lf you didn't know a thing about this place, you may think that rt's a shopping-center pasta palace, with stromholi, cheese steaks 84 pizza. Very nice, but not what you had in rnrnd for a nice dinner out, right? You would be as wrong as 1 was. Emphasize the Villa part of the name. They have mounds and mounds of luscious, homemade pasta, a wide variety, rn fact, with a tempting list of equally luscious sauces. But there's so much more than spaghetti. Yes, think Villa , as in a very attractive, comfortable land delight- fully air condrtronedl place to be, with a wide variety of delicious food at your fingertips. 'l lrrnk that way, and you'll be rrght on the niark lgven the exterior of this place looks sul'-.tantral and rnvrtrng- modified, French styl. niansarcl roof errvelopes walls of wlrrte brrr k that cover this not-too-small building. lliese features, along with a tall, stylized sign, make this place easy to find along the crrrnmercral jungle of Rte. 130. More delights await inside. The Spa- ghetti Villa is family owned and operated, 81 proprietor Elmer Conover, along wrthsonrgz licacl chef Robert, has done a great job of riarrsformirig the interior into a place of comfort and casual attractiveness. Strips of dark wood are set off against white stuccoed wallsarid theoccasronalorl parntrnglends an an of hrfauty and grace. Hangrrrg Tiffany and liulrp lamps punctuate the low lhut not too drnrl light, throwing splashes of color on the rrrarroon, upholstered chairs and padded booths Fornirca topped tables and plants rllllll1lt'l4'1lll'irk'i'l14:' Attractive andnot too r rf Very nrt r' .Xll of the great forrrl ls rnrrilv to orclvr nothing is pre-made. That can mean a slight wait sometimes, but believe me, it's worth it. Homemade soup rs done fresh daily, as rs the pizza dough. There's ample portions at reasonable prices, and all dinners come with soup, salad 8: garlic bread. Some even come with a huge bowl of complimentary mussels marinara. They have lunch specials daily, featuring a pizza for-one at 5199! There's also a separate take-out section, and they'll deliver ANYTHING on the menu, seven days a week. Keep an eye open for the arrival of their newest menu selection- soft ice cream, Great plain, or for rce cream sodas and sundaes. On to the food! The Spaghetti Villa menu is BIG: 19 pizza varieties, with turnovers, calzone 8: strombolr, 12 soups 8: salads, 11 house specialities, such as Baked Eggplant Mani- cottr f36.85lor Baked Sicilian RigatonrO7.15i, eight omelettes 8: 10 grill items fburgers 8: suchl, 38 varieties of hot sandwiches, steaks and subs, and 32 different varieties of veal, poultry Sz seafood. Plus a c hrldren's menu' Like l said, the menu is Big! l started my dinner with the soup del giorno- cream of broccoli, thick, flavorful version studded with bits and chunks of broccoli and a big, big taste. Delicious. fBowl '1.25l The complimentary mussels marinara was a surprisingly large bowl of equally large mussels- tender, lots of flavor, no grit, with Robert's extravagant marinara sauce. What a nice treat. They don't skrmp here! Next was a taste of the Tortellinr Alfredo 156.701 The tortellrnr were larger than the usual and done rust right, with a very wonderful, thick, cheesy Alfredo sauce gen- erously served up, heavy cream, butter, egg and lots of romanocheese. Robert deserves a medal for his sauces! The Veal Piccante U9 Hfll was a simple clrsh. srnrply and perfectly done Tliive gen irrous slalrs of while, nrrrtuivd yt-al, wrtli none of the tell-tale criss-cross tenderizing pattern on the meat that says This lousy veal was pounded into submission! Top quality veal, the best, lovingly breaded, each slab with it's own lemon wedge and fresh, sauteed mushrooms. Again, the sauce was a standout- no oil to muck it up, just lots of butter, lemon juice, wine, with garlic and other seasonings. l'm not an expert on Prccante, so 1'm not sure rf the sauce was the classic version or not. Whatever the case, the sauce was great, lending a unique, delicious taste to a simple dish, without overpowering the fabulous taste ofwie veal. All that you could ask for rn a sauce. The Piccante also came with a side of spaghetti for ravroli, 50' extral. 1 opted for the spa- ghetti, and so as not to confuse or overload my taste buds, l ordered more of the Piccante sauce instead of red sauce. They dorr't really have to tell you the pasta is homemade because you can taste the differ- ence. lt's a subtle difference to be sure, nothing you can pinpoint. But the taste is great. You'll love rt! There are dinner specials every day at The Spaghetti Villa, so keep an eye on the specials board. They are available for small parties too- with such great food, it's an irrestible idea. fAlso, you are invited to bring you own sprritsl l would like to caution you about one thing- you'd better arrive hungry, because the portions are large. Nothing skimpy here. When you take into considera- tion the low prices, you'll realize that The Spaghetti Villa offersa tremendous valuefor your dining dollar. Soup, salad, garlic bread, sides of spaghetti, complimentary mussels, PLUS the main course- it can almost be too much to eat. But that's what doggie bags are for! The Spaghetti Villa is open Mon,-Wed., ll to ll, Thurs , 11 to 12, Fir , 11 to 1,Sat, ll to 12 and Sun., 12 to 10 You're going lm like this plat e A lot ....,..-.......,- V. , . ...,, ...... -, 2- sf! fyf i C77 if if-5 3 .r li W 4' at sf: 3 ml SZ ?- 'i s fl Q iff e Q I Li iff!
