BOYS- 5wiMMlNG,' Mike Stephenson, Lenape What kind ol' influence does Mike Stephenson have on the l,en- ape High boys swimming team? Just ask his coach, Bud Johnson: I have to say that the primary reason we have done so well this year is because of Mike. Stephenson and his Indian mates posted an 8-1 mark this sea- son, and were co-champions with Holy Cross in the Burlington County Swimming Lea ue. Mikes not as gifteclga swimmer as Sean iMaherl or Jon iHeck. manl, but he's our best athlete, Johnson said. He plays soccer in the fall, swims in the winter and runs track in the spring. He's just a great all-around athlete. And he transfers his athletic talent into swimming wins. Stephenson, a four-year varsity letterman, swims the 50 frees- tyle and the 100 buttevtlyk for Lenape. He also can swim in either t e 200 mediey relay or t e 400 freestyle relay. His best attribute is that he's a tremedous leader, Johnson said. He's very vocal and gets along great with the other kids. lle takes it upon himself to lead the team. He's the one who organizes the pizza parties and all the extra activities for the team. Johnson said that Stephenson is waiting to hear from the Naval Ace ' His goal is to be a naval officer, he said.
