ROBERTA LOUISE BENITO President G.A.A., Tennis Team, Maiorette. We, the graduating class ot '56, have seen some of the changes in tnc educational picture. At the beginning ot the twentieth century only academic work was otTered. Now some titty-six years later we have the advantages of vocational training in the business, homemalcing, agriculture and mechanics courses ottered. The schools ot today after many extracurricular activities to help a student become better qualified to meet the problems which arise everyday. For in- stance, most schools have clubs and other organizations which students can attend. This year seniors have had a part on numerous committees. These com- mittees chose Lyle Renniclc to be official photographer tor our senior pictures and the yearbook. They also chose their announcements and gitts. Commit- tees met and planned the banquet, Sneak Day, baccalaureate, and graduation. These were not all the activities, for students participated in the Senior Play, "Tiger House," and enioyed the Junior-Senior Prom given in our honor. As we look ahead some htty years tram now, we can see an altogether ditterent program in education, tor this is an atomic age. We see more science, engineering and mathematics courses ottered to lceep pace with scientific discoveries. We see spaceships, rockets and missiles traveling around the universe, and the solar and atomic energy in industry taking the place of gases and electricity in the manufacturing ot cars, airplanes, and labor saving devices tor a more comfortable living. All the forms at transportation will be operated with these new forms ot energy, Homes will be made modern and convenient with inventions of every description, thus saving many hours for more leisure time. This is foresight, of course, but people ot one hundred years ago probably wouldn't believe their eyes if they saw people flying in this century. Yes, there must be young people ot today preparing for these scientitic iobs at tomorrow. For the nation will depend more than ever on these types ot iobs during both peace time and war.
