It usually goes something like this: James Michail Anderson — Birdsboro, Pennsyl- vania; Mechanical Engineering; Rus- sian Minor; Cultural Affairs Committee; Phi Eta Sigma; Rifle Team. That one brief description next to your yearbook ' s senior picture condenses four years into a sentence fragment. But for each one of us, the Lehigh experi- ence could fill a book — of successes, failures, friendships, memories of good times and times we ' d like to forget, from freshman to senior year. We ' ve come a long way since we first looked at the Lehigh yearbook as freshmen, not catching the inside jokes, flipping pages to find a familiar face or scene, checking out the fraternities and sororities, and looking with envy at the mugshots of self-assured ambitious, ma- ture-looking seniors. Well, now we are those seniors, and in spite of impressive job offers and bright futures for some of us, we realize that the self-assured look in the yearbook pic- tures is not confidence, but just one more skill we ' ve learned at Lehigh — the art of slinging it. Actually, the future was uncertain for most of us when we had those pictures taken. Many of us were being pre- screened from interviews, reflected from law schools, or were counting credits with our fingers crossed. But, like the se- niors from other years, we found we could pull off that self-confident success smile in the face of surrounding chaos for the mugshot. Just look at those grins. Our smiles were a little more uncertain that first hot and humid day when we unpacked our most beloved belong- ings in our rooms under the nosey eval- uating gaze of a soon-to-be-intimate stranger called your roommate. And you knew that person was thinking the same thing about you as he or she un- packed. What kind of album was that? Could it really have been Michael Jack- son, or Willie Nelson, Or Kiss? Then there was the wardrobe, offering clues to your roommate ' s athletic ability, rung on the social ladder, and even personality. For 250
